The RA3-6B2 antibody reacts with the human and mouse CD45 isoform known as CD45R, or B220, a protein tyrosine phosphatase of 220 kDa. CD45 is one of the most abundant hematopoietic markers, and is expressed on all leukocytes (the Leukocyte Common Antigen, LCA). Various isoforms are generated and expressed in cell-specific patterns, all critical for leukocyte function. In mouse, the CD45R/B220 isoform is predominantly found on B cells, at varying levels on all stages from pro-B cells to activated B cells, and may also be detected on certain T cell and NK cell subsets. It is of note that B220 is not similarly expressed on human B cells, where it appears to be differentiation-specific and therefore expressed on only some B cell subsets. NGL-1 is a single pass type I membrane protein that acts as a cell adhesion molecule. It contains nine leucine-rich repeats (LRR) and one Ig-like C2-type domain. NGL-1 is predominantly expressed in the striatum and the cerebral cortex of both the embryonic and adult brain. NGL-1 specifically interacts with Netrin G1 (a molecule involved in axon guidance in the developing central nervous system) via its LRR region. NGL-1 plays a role in the regulation of neurite outgrowth of developing thalamic neurons. Soluble NGL-1 inhibits thalamic axon outgrowth while NGL-1 that is bound to the surface of developing thalamocortical axons stimulates growth. NGL-1 also interacts with Whirlin possibly stablizing interstereociliar links.

The gene encoding HoxC5 maps to a cluster of Hox proteins on chromosome 12 that are essential for morphogenesis. Encoding over 1,100 genes within 132 million bases, chromosome 12 makes up about 4.5% of the human genome. A number of skeletal deformities are linked to chromosome 12, including hypochondrogenesis, achondrogenesis and Kniest dysplasia.
