RBM26 also contains one C3H1-type zinc finger and two RRM (RNA recognition motif) domains. The gene encoding RBM26 maps to human chromosome 13q31.1.

This gene encodes a DNA topoisomerase, an enzyme that controls and alters the topologic states of DNA during transcription. This nuclear enzyme is involved in processes such as chromosome condensation, chromatid separation, and the relief of torsional stress that occurs during DNA transcription and replication. It catalyzes the transient breaking and rejoining of two strands of duplex DNA which allows the strands to pass through one another, thus altering the topology of DNA. Two forms of this enzyme exist as likely products of a gene duplication event. The gene encoding this form, alpha, is localized to chromsome 17 and the beta gene is localized to chromosome 3. The gene encoding this enzyme functions as the target for several anticancer agents and a variety of mutations in this gene have been associated with the development of drug resistance. Reduced activity of this enzyme may also play a role in ataxia-telangiectasia.

This gene encodes a class 6 vertebrate transmembrane semaphorin that demonstrates alternative splicing. Originally thought to only have GTPase activity, Obg-related GTPase family members have been shown to also have ATPase activity. One cause for ATP affinity and GTP discrimination is thought to be a substitution of glutamine for a hydrophobic amino acid in Obg-related family members; this is the same substitution that inactivates Ras-like GTPases. GTPBP9 contains a C-terminal TGS domain that binds to ligands and an N-terminal G domain which binds nucleotides. GTPBP9 is expressed as three isoforms produced by alternative splicing.

Expressed predominantly in brain, KLHL13 is believed to play a role in protein ubiquitination and may function as a substrate specific adapter of an E3 ubiquitin protein ligase complex. E3 ligases accept a ubiquitin residue from an E2 ubiquitin conjugating enzyme and immediately transfer that residue to a protein that is targeted for degradation. Specifically, KLHL13 interacts with KLHL9 and CUL3, a member of the cullin family of mediators that participate in the selective targeting of proteins for ubiquitin mediated proteolysis.
