Chemerin, also known as retinoic acid receptor responder 2 (RARRES2) and tazarotene induced gene 2 (TIG2), is a chemoattractant protein for cells expressing G-protein-linked receptor chemokine-like receptor 1 (CMKLR1, ChemR23 or GPCR-DEZ). The protein is synthesized as a secreted precursor, prochemerin (18 kDa), which is poorly active. Upon proteolytic removal of the last six amino acids, prochemerin is converted into mature active chemerin (15-16 kDa) that acts as a strong and highly specific agonist of its receptor CMKLR1. Chemerin is a newly described adipokine with effects on adipocyte differnetiation and metabolism.

CFDP1 is a 299 amino acid protein that is involved in embryogenesis and normal cell function. When treated with CFDP1 peptide, mouse molar teeth increase in size, whereas treating cells with against CFDP1 shows an increase in the number of apoptotic cells and gradual tooth disintegration. CFDP1 is highly expressed in developing mouse teeth and is expressed at lower levels in liver, lung and heart. The gene encoding CFDP1 maps to human chromsome 16, in a region that has been associated with inherited craniofacial diseases, such as fanconi anemia type A. There are two isoforms of CFDP1 that are produced as a result of alternative splicing events.

HGFA Inhibitor 1 is an endogenous inhibitor of the kunitz-type serine proteinase HGF-activator (HGFA). HGF was first described as a hepatocyte-specific mitogen and survival factor, and has since been shown to exert a variety of actions on many cell types by binding to its MET receptor. HGF is activated by cleavage of the single-chain form to form a two-chain version by HGFA. HGFA Inhibitor 1 also inhibits trypsin, and MTSP-1 (Matriptase), a serine proteinase that also activates HGF. HGFB Inhibitor 1 is a splice variant of HGFA Inhibitor 1, and contains a 16 amino acid insert after the first kringle domain, relative to the HGFA Inhibitor 1 sequence.
