This gene encodes one of seven subunits of the human Arp2/3 protein complex. This subunit is a member of the SOP2 family of proteins and is most similar to the protein encoded by gene ARPC1B. The similarity between these two proteins suggests that they both may function as p41 subunit of the human Arp2/3 complex that has been implicated in the control of actin polymerization in cells. It is possible that the p41 subunit is involved in assembling and maintaining the structure of the Arp2/3 complex. Multiple versions of the p41 subunit may adapt the functions of the complex to different cell types or developmental stages. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.

RecQ helicases are implicated in DNA recombination and repair helicases and are critical in genome maintenance. RecQL5 is one of five known RecQ homologues in humans, and defects in three of these (BLM, WRN and RecQ4)are associated with autosomal recessive disorders that involve genomic instability and a predisposition to cancer. The exact role of ReqL5 is unclear. It has been shown in mouse embryonic stem (ES) cells that mutations in the Recql5 genes result in a significant increase in the frequency of sister chromatid exchange (SCE), whereas deleting Recql5 lead to an even higher frequency of SCE. There are three different RecQL5 isoforms - alpha, beta and gamma, produced by alternative splicing.

Translocations in the gene that encodes myomegalin are associated with myeloproliferative disorders (MBDs), a group of diseases caused by an overproduction of blood cells. Myomegalin exists as twelve isoforms due to alternative splicing events.

HAPLN2 mediates a firm binding of versican V2 to hyaluronic acid. HAPLN2 is believed to play a pivotal role in the formation of the hyaluronan-associated matrix in the central nervous system (CNS), which facilitates neuronal conduction and general structural stabilization. HAPLN2 may also be involved in the formation of extracellular matrices, contributing to perineuronal nets and facilitating the understanding of a functional role of these extracellular matrices. Muskelin is a 735 amino acid nuclear and cytoplasmic protein that mediates cytoskeletal responses and cell spreading to Thrombospondin 1, an extracellular matrix glycoprotein. Forming a CTLH complex with RMND5A, Ran BP-M and TWA1, Muskelin exists as two alternatively spliced isoforms. Muskelin is implicated as an isoform-specific anchoring protein for the prostaglandin EP3 receptor, and contains one LisH domain, a CTLH domain, six Kelch repeats and an N-terminal discoidin-like domain through which it self-associates via a head-to-tail mechanism. Human and mouse Muskelin share 98% amino acid seqeuence homology and are encoded by genes located on chromosomes 7q32.3 and 6 A3.3, respectively.

Adducins are a family of cytoskeleton proteins encoded by three genes (alpha, beta and gamma). Adducin is a protein associated with the inner leaflet of the plasma membrane and is one of the proteins localized at the spectrin-Actin junction of the membrane skeleton. The cortical Actin cytoskeletal network is lost during apoptosis and Adducins are central in the cortical Actin network organization. Adducin alpha is a cytoskeletal protein involved with sodium-pump activity in the renal tubule and is associated with hypertension. The expression of Adducin alpha and Adducin gamma is ubiquitous in contrast to the restricted expression of Adducin beta . Adducin beta is expressed at high levels in brain and hematopoietic tissues, such as bone marrow in humans and spleen in mice.

The CD3 complex is closely associated at the lymphocyte cell surface with the T cell antigen receptor (TCR). Reportedly, CD3 complex is involved in signal transduction to the T cell interior following antigen recognition. The CD3 antigen is first detectable in early thymocytes and probably represents one of the earliest signs of commitment to the T cell lineage. In cortical thymocytes, CD3 is predominantly intra-cytoplasmic. However, in medullary thymocytes, it appears on the T cell surface. CD3 antigen is a highly specific marker for T cells, and is present in majority of T cell neoplasms.

Recognizes a protein of 36 kDa, identified as cyclin D1. Cyclin D1, one of the key cell cycle regulators, is a putative proto-oncogene overexpressed in a wide variety of human neoplasms. This antibody neutralizes the activity of cyclin D1 in vivo. About 60% of mantle cell lymphomas (MCL) contain a t(11; 14)(q13; q32) translocation resulting in over-expression of cyclin D1. This antibody is useful in identifying mantle cell lymphomas (cyclin D1 positive) from CLL/SLL and follicular lymphomas (cyclin D1 negative). Occasionally, hairy cell leukemia and plasma cell myeloma weakly express Cyclin D1.
