GEFT is a 580 amino acid cytoplasmic protein that is highly expressed in excitable tissues such as brain, heart and muscle, and weakly expressed in small intestine, colon, liver, placenta and lung. GEFT may play a role in actin cytoskeleton reorganization in different tissues since its activation induces formation of actin stress fibers. GEFT works as a guanine nucleotide exchange factor for the Rho family of small GTPases and links specifically to G alpha q/11-coupled receptors in Rho A activation. GEFT is an important regulator of processes involved in axon and dendrite formation. Involved in skeletal myogenesis, GEFT seems to be an exchange factor primarily for Rac 1 in neurons. Existing as two alternatively spliced variants, GEFT contains a DH (DBL-homology) domain and a PH domain.

It resides in both cytoplasm and nucleus, and its nuclear accumulation is found to be dramatically enhanced in response to its activation. This kinase can also be activated after B cell antigen receptor (BCR) engagement, which requires intact phopholipase C gamma and the involvement of other PKC family members.

ApoA1 is the major protein component of high density lipoprotein (HDL) in the plasma. It can function as a cofactor for lecithin cholesterolacyltransferase, which is responsible for the formation of most plasma cholesteryl esters. AI-BP (Apolipoprotein A-I-binding protein), also known as YjeF N-terminal domain-containing protein 1, is a 288 amino acid secreted protein that binds ApoA1, ApoA2 and HDL. Individuals with impaired renal function show an increased rate of AI-BP excretion, indicating that it is normally reabsorbed within the kidney tubules. AI-BP belongs to the YjeF N-terminal domain protein family, which includes proteins that are frequently involved in oogenesis and spermatogenesis. There are two isoforms of AI-BP that are produced as a result of alternative splicing events.
