Calpains are a family of cytosolic calcium activated cysteine proteases involved in a variety of cellular processes including apoptosis, cell division, modulation of integrin and cytoskeletal interactions, and synaptic plasticity. Calpain 12 was first described in the mouse, most strongly in the skin, and maps to mouse chromosome 7. Isoforms differ in the carboxyterminal ends, ending with aberrant domain III and lacking domain IV. Domains in the large subunit include the amino terminal domain I, the proteinase domain II, domain III, and the EF hand domain IV, making Calpain 12 most similar to calpains 1 and 2.

The 2.4G2 antibody is specific for a common epitope found in the extracellular regions of mouse Fc-receptors Fc-gamma II (CD32) and Fc-gamma III (CD16). As these are receptors for the Fc portion of mouse IgG, they may also bind laboratory antibody preparations and products used in a variety of cell analysis protocols such as flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry and functional cell assays. The 2.4G2 antibody is therefore widely used as a pre-treatment reagent to block binding of specific antibodies of interest, e.g. fluorescently conjugated antibodies, to Fc receptors via their Fc domains and contributing to “non-specific” staining.

Complement Component 1Q Subcomponent-Binding Protein (C1QBP) is a nucleus protein that belongs to the MAM33 family. C1QBP is known to bind to the globular heads of C1q molecules and inhibit C1 activation. Mitochondrial C1QBP is a critical mediator of p14ARF-induced apoptosis. C1QBP functions as a chemotactic factor for immature dendritic cells, and migration is mediated through ligation of both C1QBP and cC1qR/CR. C1QBP overexpression successfully blocks mRNA accumulation from the adenovirus major late transcription unit (MLTU) and stimulates RNA polymerase II carboxy-terminal domain phosphorylation in virus-infected cells.
