KCTD15 Antibody: Childhood and adult obesity in the United States and to a lesser extent the rest of the world has increased dramatically over the past decade. Both environmental and genetic factors are involved in the onset and progression of weight gain. Recently, the potassium channel KCTD15 was identified as a genetic loci associated with higher than normal body mass index (BMI) in humans along with genes such as GNPDA2, MTCH2, FTO, and TMEM18. Further studies on single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in non-diabetic and diabetic patients showed that FTO was most strongly associated with obesity while MTCH2 and GNPDA2 were still significantly associated with higher than normal BMI levels. At least two isoforms of KCTD15 are known to exist.

Voltage-gated K+ channels are important determinants of neuronal membrane excitability. Moreover, differences in K+ channel expression patterns and densities contribute to the variations in action potential waveforms and repetitive firing patterns evident in different neuronal cell types (Maletic-Savatic et al., 1995; Pongs, 1999; Blaine and Ribera, 1998; Burger and Ribera, 1996). The Kv3.1 potassium channel is expressed at high levels in neurons that characteristically fire rapid trains of action potentials (Gan et al., 1999). Particularly high levels of this channel are found in neurons of the auditory brainstem. These neurons appear to participate in neural circuits that determine the intensity and timing of auditory stimuli and use this information to determine the location of sounds in space (von Hehn et al., 2004).

Cefotaxime is a cephalosporin, which acts by interference of synthesis of peptidoglycan of the bacterial cell wall. Cefotaxime, a cephalosporin antibiotic, is active against both gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. In addition, cefotaxime blocks the division of cyanobacteria and lower plant organelles/plastids such as the photosynthetic organelles of Glaucophytes and chloroplasts of bryophytes.
Cefotaxime is used for infections of the respiratory tract, skin, bones, joints, urogenital system, meninges, and bloodstream. It generally has good coverage against most Gram-negative bacteria, with the notable exception of Pseudomonas. It is also effective against most Gram-positive cocci except for Enterococcus. It is active against penicillin-resistant strains of Streptococcus pneumoniae. It has modest activity against the anaerobic Bacteroides fragilis. In meningitis, cefotaxime crosses the blood–brain barrier better than cefuroxime. Cefotaxim inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) which inhibits the final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis in bacterial cell walls. As a result, bacteria lyse due to cell wall autolytic enzymes.

CSEN is a member of the family of voltage-gated potassium (Kv) channel-interacting proteins (KCNIPs), which belong to the recoverin branch of the EF-hand superfamily. Members of the KCNIP family are small calcium binding proteins. They all have EF-hand-like domains, and differ from each other in the N-terminus. They are integral subunit components of native Kv4 channel complexes. They may regulate A-type currents, and hence neuronal excitability, in response to changes in intracellular calcium. The protein encoded by this gene is also shown to function as a calcium-regulated transcriptional repressor, and to interact with presenilins. Mutations in the presenilin genes have been implicated in Alzheimer's disease.
