FREM1 is a 2,179 amino acid protein that contains one C-type lectin domain, one Calx-beta domain and twelve CSPG repeats. Localized to the basement membrane of embryonic epidermal cells and secreted into extracellular space, FREM1 functions as an extracellular matrix protein that is essential for epidermal adhesion during embryogenesis and may also participate in epidermal differentiation. FREM1 exists as multiple alternatively spliced isoforms and is encoded by a gene which maps to human chromosome 9. Chromosome 9 contains 145 million base pairs and comprises 4% of the human genome, encoding nearly 900 genes. Hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia, which is characterized by harmful vascular defects, and Familial dysautonomia, are both associated with chromosome 9. Notably, chromosome 9 encompasses the largest interferon family gene cluster.

IQSEC2 is a 1,478 amino acid protein that belongs to the BRAG family and contains one IQ domain, one PH domain and a SEC7 domain. Localizing to the cytoplasm, IQSEC2 is expressed in brain, kidney and small intestine, with weaker levels of expression in placenta, pancreas, ovary, prostate and liver. IQSEC2 is a component of the postsynaptic density at excitatory synapses, and interacts with ARF family members as a guanine nucleotide exchange factor. Through the activation of ARF substrates, IQSEC2 may play a crucial role in cytoskeletal and synaptic organization. The gene encoding IQSEC2 maps to the human X chromosome. Defects to the IQSEC2 gene have been linked to mental retardation X-linked type 1 (MRX1), a condition characterized by decreased intellectual function. IQSEC2 exists as three isoforms due to alternative splicing events.

The Makorins are a family of putative ribonucleoproteins containing two to four C3H zinc fingers that may confer RNA-binding. In addition, they contain a C3HC4 RING zinc finger that allows them to function as E3 ubiquitin ligases. Makorin-2, also known as RNF62, HSPC070 or MKRN2, is a widely expressed, evolutionarily conserved protein with four C3H-type zinc fingers (three at the N-terminus and one at the C-terminus), one RING-type zinc finger and a cysteine and histidine motif similar to that found in Makorin-1. In Xenopus, Makorin-2 functions, via PI 3-kinase/Akt signaling, as a negative regulator of neurogenesis. In humans, Makorin-2 is overexpressed in various cancer cell lines, suggesting a possible role of Makorin-2 in tumor progression. In addition, Makorin-2 is co-expressed with Raf-1 in the same tissues and cell lines.

Recognizes a protein of 30-33 kDa, which is identified as CD20 (Workshop V; Code CD20.4). It is a non-Ig differentiation antigen of B-cells and its expression is restricted to normal and neoplastic B-cells, being absent from all other leukocytes and tissues. CD20 is expressed by pre B-cells and persists during all stages of B-cell maturation but is lost upon terminal differentiation into plasma cells. The protein passes through the membrane 4 times with both ends in cytoplasm and exposes one short and one longer loop to the external environment. CD20 is not glycosylated in resting B-cells and its cytoplasmic domains are differentially phosphorylated upon activation. It acts as calcium channel involved in B cell activation and cell cycle progression.
