Twist2 (Twist homolog 2) is a basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) transcription factor which acts as a transcriptional repressor. It binds to the E-box consensus sequence 5'-CANNTG-3' and inhibits transcriptional activation by MYOD1, MYOG, MEF2A and MEF2C. Efficient DNA binding requires dimerization with another bHLH protein. Twist2 inhibits the premature or ectopic differentiation of preosteoblast cells during osteogenesis.

Recognizes an oncofetal antigen of 220 kDa, identified as a tumor-associated glycoprotein (TAG-72) with properties of a mucin. This MAb defines the mucin-carried sialylated-Tn epitope. TAG-72 is usually expressed by adenocarcinomas, but is negative in mesotheliomas. Studies have reported that this antibody has 80% sensitivity and 93% specificity for pulmonary adenocarcinoma. Therefore, TAG-72 is a useful marker to distinguish between mesothelioma and adenocarcinoma. However, false positive reactions can occur so results must be interpreted with the utmost caution. This antibody may be useful in the differentiation of non-small cell carcinomas from small cell carcinomas of the lung. The combined use of anti-TAG-72 and anti-GCDFP-15 is valuable in the diagnosis of apocrine carcinoma.

GAPR-1 (Golgi-associated plant pathogenesis-related protein 1), also known as GLIPR2, is a 154 amino acid lipid anchor protein belonging to the CRISP family. GAPR-1 also shares similarity with the pathogenesis-related protein (PR) superfamily, and may play an important role in the immune system. Existing as a homodimer, GAPR-1 is highly expressed in lung and peripheral leukocytes with minor expression in liver and kidney. Containing a conserved sperm-coating protein (SCP) domain, GAPR-1 binds to negatively charged lipids and may be involved in the differentiation of epithelial cells into mesenchymal cells. Increased expression of GAPR-1 in kidney may contribute to the development of fibrosis.

The chromosome 11 encoded Atm gene is important for regulation of cell cycle arrest and apoptosis following double strand DNA breaks. Atm mutation leads to the disorder known as ataxia-telangiectasia. The blood disorders Sickle cell anemia and ∫ thalassemia are caused by HBB gene mutations. Wilms' tumors, WAGR syndrome and Denys-Drash syndrome are associated with mutations of the WT1 gene. Jervell and Lange-Nielsen syndrome, Jacobsen syndrome, Niemann-Pick disease, hereditary angioedema and Smith-Lemli-Opitz syndrome are also associated with defects in chromosome 11.
