Brilliant Blue R concentrate is a methanol based stain especially designed for staining protein in polyacrylamide but will also stain agarose gels. The stain contains methanol and acetic acid so gels do not require fixing prior to staining. Brilliant Blue R Concentrate has been used for protein band detection after nondenaturing gradient gel electrophoresis, isoelectric focussing and SDS-PAGE (sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis). For detection of protein bands following electrophoresis.

Brilliant Blue R staining solution is especially designed for use in staining protein in agarose gels following immunoelectrophoresis and Ouchterlony gels. The stain contains ethanol and acetic acid so gels do not require fixing prior to staining. The immunoelectrophoresis or Ouchterlony gel is first washed with water and saline to remove non-precipitated proteins and then dried. The gel is then immersed in staining solution for 30 min and destained with 10% acetic acid. For detection of protein bands following electrophoresis.

Thermo Scientific Pierce coomassie brilliant blue dyes are composed of one of the most common forms of coomassie dye, which is a key component of various colorimetric protein gel stains. Coomassie R-250 and G-250 dyes are two chemical forms of a disulphonated triphenylmethane compound that is commonly used as the basis of stains for detection of proteins in gel electrophoresis and bradford-type assay reagents for protein quantitation. The R-250 (red-tinted) form lacks two methyl groups that are present in the G-250 (green-tinted) form, which is also called colloidal coomassie dye.
