SDCBP, also called syntenin-1, is short for Syndecan-binding protein 1. It is expressed by the gene Sdcbp. SDCBP seems to function as an adapter protein. In adherens junctions, the protein may function to couple syndecans to cytoskeletal proteins or signaling components. Meanwhile it seems to couple transcription factor SOX4 to the IL-5 receptor (IL5RA). SDCBP also play a role in vesicular trafficking, and is required for the targeting of TGFA to the cell surface in the early secretory pathway.

Intelectin-1(ITLN1) is a secreted protein and contains 1 fibrinogen C-terminal domain. Intelectin-1 is a 40 kDa Ca-dependent galactofuranose-binding lectin that is not a C-type lectin. It is expressed on multiple cell types and appears to participate in insulin signaling and microbe recognition. The protein has no effect on basal glucose uptake but enhances insulin-stimulated glucose uptake in adipocytes. It increases AKT phosphorylation in the absence and presence of insulin and it may play a role in the defense systemagainst microorganisms. It also may specifically recognize carbohydrate chains of pathogens and bacterial components containing galactofuranosy l residues, in a calcium-dependent manner.

erpin F1 (SERPINF1) is also known as Pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF), Cell proliferation-inducing gene 35 protein (PIG35). Serpin F1 belongs to the serpin family. Serpin F1 is expressed in quiescent cells. PEDF has a variety of functions including antiangiogenic, antitumorigenic, and neurotrophic properties. Endothelial cell migration is inhibited by SERPINF1/ PEDF. PEDF / SERPINF1 suppresses retinal neovascularization and endothelial cell proliferation. PEDF is also responsible for apoptosis of endothelial cells either through the p38 MAPK pathway or through the FAS/FASL pathway. PEDF also displays neurotrophic functions.

Serpin E1 is a secreted protein which belongs to the Serpin family. Serpin E1 acts as 'bait' for tissue plasminogen activator, urokinase, and protein C. Its rapid interaction with TPA may function as a major control point in the regulation of fibrinolysis. Defects in SERPINE1 are characterized by abnormal bleeding due to Serpin E1 defect in the plasma. High concentrations of Serpin E1 have been associated with thrombophilia which is an autosomal dominant disorder in which affected individuals are prone to develop serious spontaneous thrombosis.

Interleukin-12 (IL-12), also known as Natural Killer Cell Stimulatory Factor (NKSF) or Cytotoxic Lymphocyte Maturation Factor (CLMF), is a heterodimeric pleiotropic cytokine made up of a 40 kDa (p40) subunit and a 35 kDa (p35) subunit. IL-12 is produced by macrophages and B lymphocytes and has been shown to have multiple effects on T cells and Natural Killer (NK) cells. Some of these IL-12 activities include the induction of IFN-gamma and TNF in resting and activated T and NK cells; the enhancement of cytotoxic activity of resting NK and T cells, the stimulation of resting T cell proliferation in the presence of a comitogen; and the enhancement of NK cell proliferation. Current evidence indicates that IL-12 is a key mediator of cellular immunity and induces the differentiation of Th1 cells from precursor T helper cells. Based on its activities, it has been suggested that IL-12 may have therapeutic potential as a vaccine adjuvant that promotes cellular immunity and as an antitumour and anti viral agent.
