Mono-ADP-ribosylation is one of the posttranslational protein modifications regulating cellular metabolism (e.g. nitrogen fixation) in prokaryotes. Mono-ADP-ribosylation is a process in which the ADP-ribose moiety of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide is transferred to an acceptor amino acid. Five mammalian ADP-ribosyltransferases (ART1-ART5) have been cloned, and each ART is expressed in different tissues. ART5 (ADP-ribosyltransferase 5), also known as Ecto-ADP-ribosyltransferase 5, is a 292 amino acid secretory protein that is expressed in testis, heart, skeletal muscle and lymphoma. Functionally, ART5 is implicatetd to play a role in cell signaling and metabolism cascades. Two isoforms of ART5 exist as a result of alternative splicing events.

Immunoglobulins have similar structures of two identical heavy chains and two identical light chains. Both the heavy chains and the light chains are divided into constant and variable regions. The constant regions have the same amino acid sequences between all the immunoglobulin classes. The variable regions have approximately 110 amino acids with high sequence variability. The amino acid sequence of the heavy chain determines the class of an immunoglobulin. The five types of immunoglobulin heavy chains are known as: IgG, IgA, IgM, IgD, and IgE. IgG is divided into four subclasses, and IgA is divided into two subclasses. In serum IgA and IgG are monomers with a single 4 polypeptide unit; while, IgM is a pen tamer. IgA may also form polymers. Kappa light chain antibody can be used for the identification of leukemias, plasmacytomas and certain non Hodgkin's lymphomas. Kappa light chain contains one immunoglobulin like domain. The EU sequence has the INV allotypic marker, Ala 45 and Val 83. The ROY sequence has the INV allotypic marker, Ala 45 and Leu 83.

The 3-HAO family of proteins consists of intramolecular dioxygenases that contain non-heme ferrous iron. The family of guanylin regulatory peptides, including guanylin and uroguanylin, are strongly expressed in intestinal mucosa and regulate intestinal fluid secretion during digestion. Guanylins are also involved in acid neutralization and the regulation of membrane-bound guanylate cyclase Signalling molecules. Guanylin and uroguanylin are secreted primarily in the stomach, intestine, and colon. Guanylin is also detected in plasma. Guanylin is an endogenous activator of intestinal guanylate cyclase. It stimulates intestinal guanylate cyclase through the same receptor binding region as the heat-stable enterotoxins. Gut enterochromaffin cells synthesize guanylin to be a prohormone of 115 amino acids which is then is processed to the molecular form of 94 amino acids. This 10 kDa form is found circulating in the blood.
