GSTZ1 is a member of the glutathione S transferase (GSTs) super family, encoding multifunctional enzymes important in the detoxification of electrophilic molecules, including carcinogens, mutagens, and several therapeutic drugs, by conjugation with glutathione. This enzyme also plays a significant role in the catabolism of phenylalanine and tyrosine. Several transcript variants of this gene encode multiple protein isoforms. GSTZ1 shows minimal glutathione-conjugating activity with ethacrynic acid and 7-chloro-4-nitrobenz-2-oxa-1,3-diazole and maleylacetoacetate isomerase activity. It has low glutathione peroxidase activity with T butyl and cumene hydroperoxides and is able to catalyze the glutathione dependent oxygenation of dichloroacetic acid to glyoxylic acid. Highest expression in liver followed by kidney, skeletal muscle and brain. Also expressed in melanocytes, synovium, placenta, breast and fetal liver and heart.

As a subfamily of the cadherin superfamily, protocadherins are cadherin-like cell adhesion proteins that contain up to seven extracellular domains and are predominantly expressed in the nervous system. Importantly, the adhesion mechanism of protocadherins is distinct from classic cadherins. Through inactivation or overexpression, several protocadherins have been implicated in a variety of cancers. Protocadherin-20 (PCDH20), also known as protocadherin-13, is a 924 amino acid protein containing 6 cadherin domains and potentially functioning as a calcium-dependent cell-adhesion protein. In non-small cell lung cancer cell lines, a homozygous loss of PCDH20 was identified through either deletion of one allele and methylation of the other or methylation of both alleles. Hypermethylation of PCDH20 is associated with worse prognosis and clinical outcome, suggesting that PCDH20 may function as a tumor suppressor.

RCBTB1 (regulator of chromosome condensation (RCC1) and BTB (POZ) domain containing protein 1), also known as GLP, CLLD7, CLLL7 or E4.5, is a 531 amino acid protein that localizes to the nucleus and contains two BTB (POZ) domains and six RCC1 repeats. Expressed ubiquitously, RCBTB1 is thought to be involved in cell cycle regulation, specifically via chromatin remodeling. The gene encoding RCBTB1 maps to a region on human chromosome 13 that is frequently deleted in B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia, suggesting a possible role for RCBTB1 in tumor suppression.
