Expressed predominantly in brain, KLHL13 is believed to play a role in protein ubiquitination and may function as a substrate specific adapter of an E3 ubiquitin protein ligase complex. E3 ligases accept a ubiquitin residue from an E2 ubiquitin conjugating enzyme and immediately transfer that residue to a protein that is targeted for degradation. Specifically, KLHL13 interacts with KLHL9 and CUL3, a member of the cullin family of mediators that participate in the selective targeting of proteins for ubiquitin mediated proteolysis. Via its BTB and C terminal Kelch (BACK) motif, KLHL13 is thought to play a role in spatially orientating substrates in the CUL3 ligase.

Interleukin 13 (IL-13) is a cytokine secreted from type 2 T helper (Th2) cells. IL-13 has overlapping functions with interleukin 4 (IL-4), including the induction of immunoglobulin E (IgE) secretion from B cells, and the inhibition of interleukin 1 beta (IL-1β), tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), interleukin 8 (IL-8), and interleukin 6 (IL-6) inflammatory cytokine expression. IL-13 also regulates immune cell inflammation in response to the pathophysiological changes of surrounding non-immune cells. The IL-13 receptor consists of the IL-4Ra and IL-13Ra1 subunits. IL-13 can also bind the IL-13Ra2 receptor with high affinity. IL-13 functions are mediated through the JAK/STAT signaling pathway. Human and mouse IL-13 are cross-reactive.

Wenn ein AnaeroGen-Beutel in ein versiegeltes Gefäß gegeben wird, wird der atmosphärische Sauerstoff im Gefäß schnell absorbiert, wobei gleichzeitig Kohlendioxid entsteht. Diese neuartige Methode unterscheidet sich von anderen häufig verwendeten Verfahren dadurch, dass die Reaktion ohne Wasserstoffentwicklung abläuft und daher kein Katalysator erforderlich ist. Darüber hinaus wird kein Wasser benötigt, um die Reaktion zu aktivieren. Bei bestimmungsgemäßer Verwendung reduziert der AnaeroGen-Beutel den Sauerstoffgehalt im Gefäß innerhalb von 30 Minuten auf unter 1%. Der resultierende Kohlendioxidgehalt liegt zwischen 9% und 13%.

RDH13, also known as all-trans and 9-cis retinol dehydrogenase 13 or SDR7C3, is a 331 amino acid mitochondrial protein belonging to the short-chain dehydrogenases/reductases (SDR) family. Widely expressed, mostly in eye, pancreas, placenta and lung, RDH13 localizes on the outer side of the inner mitochondrial membrane. Related to microsomal retinoid oxidoreductase RDH11, RDH13 is considered to be a major enzyme among the RDH family of proteins. Catalytically active, RDH13 recognizes retinoids as substrates and may function in retinoic acid production. RDH13 may function to protect the mitochondria against oxidative stress. Leber congenital amaurosis (LCA) type 3, an inherited autosomal recessive retinal disease, has been associated with defects of RDH13. LCA represents the most common genetic cause of congenital visual impairment in infants and children.
