Methylates (mono- and asymmetric dimethylation) the guanidino nitrogens of arginyl residues in several proteins involved in DNA packaging, transcription regulation, and mRNA stability. Recruited to promoters upon gene activation together with histone acetyltransferases from EP300/P300 and p160 families, methylates histone H3 at 'Arg-17' and activates transcription via chromatin remodeling. During nuclear hormone receptor activation and TCF7L2/TCF4 activation, acts synergically with EP300/P300 and either one of the p160 histone acetyltransferases NCOA1/SRC1, NCOA2/GRIP1 and NCOA3/ACTR or CTNNB1/beta-catenin to activate transcription. During myogenic transcriptional activation, acts together with NCOA3/ACTR as a coactivator for MEF2C. During monocyte inflammatory stimulation, acts together with EP300/P300 as a coactivator for NF-κ-B. Also seems to be involved in p53/TP53 transcriptional activation. Methylates EP300/P300, both at 'Arg-2142', which may loosen its interaction with NCOA2/GRIP1, and at 'Arg-580' and 'Arg-604' in the KIX domain, which impairs its interaction with CREB and inhibits CREB-dependent transcriptional activation. Also methylates arginine residues in RNA-binding proteins PABPC1, ELAVL1 and ELAV4, which may affect their mRNA-stabilizing properties and the half-life of their target mRNAs.

BCL2A1s a member of the BCL-2 protein family. The proteins of this family form hetero- or homodimers and act as anti- and pro-apoptotic regulators that are involved in a wide variety of cellular activities such as embryonic development, homeostasis and tumorigenesis. The protein encoded by this gene is able to reduce the release of pro-apoptotic cytochrome c from mitochondria and block caspase activation. This gene is a direct transcription target of NF-kappa B in response to inflammatory mediators, and has been shown to be up-regulated by different extracellular signals, such as granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), CD40, phorbol ester and inflammatory cytokine TNF and IL-1, which suggests a cytoprotective function that is essential for lymphocyte activation as well as cell survival.

ApoA1 is also known as apolipoprotein A-I, ApoA-I , and is the major protein component of high density lipoprotein (HDL) in plasma. It has a specific role in lipid metabolism. Chylomicrons secreted from the intestinal enterocyte also contain ApoA1 but it is quickly transferred to HDL in the bloodstream. The protein promotes cholesterol efflux from tissues to the liver for excretion. It is a cofactor for lecithin cholesterol acyltransferase (LCAT) which is responsible for the formation of most plasma cholesteryl esters. ApoA-I was also isolated as a prostacyclin (PGI2) stabilizing factor, and thus may have an anticlotting effect. Defects in the gene encoding it are associated with HDL deficiencies, including Tangier disease, and with systemic non-neuropathic amyloidosis. In addition, it has been shown that ApoA1 is implicated in the anti-endotoxin function of HDL via interaction with lipopolysaccharide or endotoxin.

LDL-R Antibody: The low density lipoprotein receptor (LDL-R) gene family consists of cell surface proteins involved in receptor-mediated endocytosis of specific ligands. Low density lipoprotein (LDL) is normally bound at the cell membrane and taken into the cell ending up in lysosomes where the protein is degraded and the cholesterol is made available for repression of microsomal enzyme 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG CoA) reductase, the rate-limiting step in cholesterol synthesis. At the same time, a reciprocal stimulation of cholesterol ester synthesis takes place. Mutations in the LDL-R gene cause the autosomal dominant disorder, familial hypercholesterolemia. Along with SCARB1, CLDN1, and the tetraspanin superfamily member CD81, LDL-R has been reported to be an entry factor for the Hepatitis C virus. At least three isoforms of LDL-R are known to exist.

ALAS-1 (EC 2.3.1.37) is a nuclear-encoded mitochondrial matrix enzymecatalyzing the condensation of glycine with succinyl-CoA to form delta-amino levulinate, CO2 and CoA. It regulates the first and rate-limiting step of heme biosynthetic pathway. It is one of the two isoforms of ALAS and is a pyridoxal-5 phosphate dependant housekeeping enzyme. It is ubiquitously expressed and is responsible of providing heme for cytochromes and other hemoproteins. ALAS1 in liver undergoes negative feedback regulation by heme. Transcription of ALAS1 gene is stimulated by cAMP and respiratory uncoupling whereas Phorbol esters and insulin repress ALAS1 gene expression. ALAS1 is suggested to be involved in reciprocal regulation of Heme biosynthesis and circadian clock suggesting a potential target for treatment of circadian disorders. ALAS1 gene expression is down regulated in Acute Liver failure resulting in altered heme metabolism and liver function.

TIMP1 forms a complex of 1:1 stoichiometry with activated interstitial collagenases, activated stromelysin, active form of 72kDa Type IV collagenase (also known as MMP2 or gelatinase A), and latent and active forms of 92kDa Type IV collagenase (also known as MMP0 or gelatinase B). TIMPs inhibit the proteolytic invasiveness of tumour cells and normal placental trophoblast cells. TIMP1 is produced in low (pg/mL) levels by most cell types. Treatment of cells with the phorbol ester TPA stimulates production of TIMP1 in some cell types, but the low protein levels produced often require concentration of cell culture media to visualize the bands by Western Blotting.

Tweens® are a series of nonionic surfactants derived from sorbitan esters. They are soluble or dispersible in water but differ widely in organic and oil solubilities. Used as oil-in-water emulsifiers in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, cleaning compounds, etc.
Tween® 80 has been widely used in biochemical applications including: solubilizing proteins, isolating nuclei from cells in culture selective protein extraction growing of tubercule bacilli, and emulsifying and dispersing substances in medicinal and food products. It has little or no activity as an anti-bacterial agent. It has been shown to have an adverse effect on the antibacterial effect of methyl paraben and related compounds. Non-ionic detergent used for selective protein extraction and isolation of nuclei from mammalian cell lines. Soluble/miscible in water to give a clear yellow solution; miscible with alcohol, dioxane, and ethyl acetate; practically insoluble in liquid paraffin and fixed oils (such as mineral oil). Autoclaving of solutions is not recommended. Sterile filtering is suggested with a 0.22 micron filter. Tween® may need to be warmed to about 40 °C and alternated with portions of hot distilled water while being poured through the filter. Store at Room Temperature (15-30 °C).
