The Ras p21 family of guanine nucleotide proteins has been widely studied in view of its apparent role in signal transduction pathways and high frequency of mutations in human malignancies. It is now clear, however, that the Ras proteins (H-, K- and N-Ras p21) are members of a much larger superfamily of related proteins. Six members of this family, Rap 1A, Rap 1B, Rap 2, R-Ras, Ral A and Ral B, exhibit approximately 50% amino acid homology to Ras. The six mammalian Rho proteins (Rho A, B, C, G, 7 and 8) are approximately 30% homologous to Ras and are expressed in a wide range of cell types. Both Ras p21 and Rho p21, as well as other members of the Ras superfamily, contain a carboxy-terminal CAAX sequence (C, cysteine; A, aliphatic amino acid; X, any amino acid) which in the case of Ras has been shown to be essential for correct localization and function.

The BTB (Broad-Complex, Tramtrack and Bric a brac) domain, also known as the POZ (Poxvirus and Zinc finger) domain, is an N-terminal homodimerization domain that contains multiple copies of kelch repeats and/or C2H2-type zinc fingers. Proteins that contain BTB domains are thought to be involved in transcriptional regulation via control of chromatin structure and function. ZBTB1 (zinc finger and BTB domain containing 1), also known as KIAA0997, is a 713 amino acid nuclear protein that contains one BTB (POZ) domain and 8 C2H2-type zinc fingers. ZBTB2 is a 514 amino acid nuclear protein that contains one BTB (POZ) domain and 4 C2H2-type zinc fingers. ZBTB25, also known as ZNF46 or KUP, is a 435 amino acid nuclear protein that is expressed mainly in hematopoietic cells and testis and contains one BTB (POZ) domain and 2 C2H2-type zinc fingers.

Naphthol blue black (NBB) is an textile diazo dye, with high photo- and thermal-stability. Photoelectrochemical degradation of this dye yields colorless quinone as end product. Pure grade of NBB is generally used for dyeing foodstuffs, drugs and cosmetics. It is also used as a protein stain in chromatography and electrophoresis and as a biological stain. Commercial grade of NBB is a widely used textile dye. It is used in dyeing wool, nylon, silk and in textile printing. In addition, it is also employed for colouring of soaps, anodised aluminum and casein, wood stains and writing ink preparation.
