HkRP3, also known as CCDC88B (coiled-coil domain-containing protein 88B) or BRLZ (brain leucine zipper domain-containing protein), is a 1,476 amino acid protein that belongs to the CCDC88 family. Members of the hook-related protein family are characterized by the presence of a C-terminal hook-related domain and an N-terminal potential microtubule binding domain. HkRP3 may be involved in the linkage of various organelles to microtubules, and exists as six alternatively spliced isoforms. The gene encoding HkRP3 maps to human chromosome 11q13.1 and mouse chromosome 19 A. Chromosome 11 houses over 1,400 genes and comprises nearly 4% of the human genome. Jervell and Lange-Nielsen syndrome, Jacobsen syndrome, Niemann-Pick disease, hereditary angioedema and Smith-Lemli-Opitz syndrome are associated with defects in genes that maps to chromosome 11.

The N-terminal domain is involved in substrate binding and manganese coordination, while the C-terminal domain is involved in UDP-Gal binding and catalytic reaction. GalNAc-T11 is highly expressed in kidney tubules, though it is not expressed in glomeruli. There are two isoforms of GalNAc-T11 that are produced as a result of alternative splicing events.

Bcl-9L is a 1,499 amino acid protein that localizes to the nucleus and contains a specialized C-terminal domain that is important for its overall activity. Many growth factors function by binding receptors with intrinsic tyrosine kinase activity (1,2). Signaling by such receptors involves a series of intermediates characterized by SH2 domains that bind tyrosine phosphorylated receptors by a direct interaction between the SH2 domain and the phosphotyrosine-containing receptor sequences (3,4). GRB7, a SH2 domain protein, has a single SH2 domain at its C-terminal, a central region with similarity to Ras GAP and a proline-rich N-terminus (5,6). GRB7 maps to the region on mouse chromosome 11 containing the Neu gene (6). This region of mouse chromosome 11 is syntenic to an area of human chromosome 17q that is frequently amplified in breast cancer (6,7). Moreover, GRB7 is amplified and over-expressed in breast cancer and is found in a complex with Neu gp185 (6).

The gene encoding human Membralin, C19orf6, localizes to chromosome 19p13.3. It contains 11 exons, which encode at least two splice variants in human cancer. Membralin is a multi-pass membrane protein and exists either as a long or short form. The long form of Membralin comprises all 11 exons, while the short form contains all exons except exon 10. Expression of different Membralin isoforms depends on tissue type. The long form is expressed in ovarian and colorectal carcinomas, whereas the short form is expressed in breast or pancreatic carcinomas. Because Membralin expression in ovarian carcinomas is highest in serous carcinomas as compared to surface epithelium carcinomas, expression of Membralin may be useful as a novel tumor-associated marker in ovarian serous carcinomas.
