Members of the glutathione S-transferase (GST) family of proteins function in the detoxification of xenobiotics to protect cells against toxicant-induced damage. There are eight families of GST proteins, namely alpha, zeta, theta, kappa, mu, pi, sigma and omega, each of which are composed of proteins that have a variety of functions throughout the cell. GSTK1 (glutathione S-transferase kappa 1), also known as glutathione S-transferase subunit 13 (GST 13-13) or GSTK1-1, is a 226 amino acid ubiquitously expressed protein belonging to the kappa class of the GST superfamily that functions in cellular detoxification. Localizing to peroxisome, GSTK1 exists as a homodimer that catalyzes the conjugation of glutathione to a number of hydrophobic substrates leading to their removal from the cell.

Streptavidin Resin is designed for the single step small and large scale affinity purification of proteins and antibodies with a biotin tag. Biotin, a 244 Da vitamin (Vitamin H) molecule, exhibits an extraordinary binding affinity for avidin (Ka=10¹⁵ M⁻¹) and streptavidin (Ka=10¹⁵ M⁻¹). Biotin and (strept)avidin interaction is rapid and once the bond is established it can survive up to 3M guanidinehydrochloride and extremes of pH. Biotin-avidin bonds can only be reversed by denaturing the avidin protein molecule with 8M guanidine-hydrochloride at pH 1,5 or by autoclaving. The biotinylated molecules are efficiently probed with avidin or streptavidin conjugated to reporter molecules, such as peroxidases or phosphatases.

Angiopoietin-like protein 3 (Angptl3) functions as a potent lipoprotein lipase inhibitor and is an important component of plasma triglyceride homeostasis. Angptl3 also plays a role in adipose formation and angiogenesis through its interaction with integrin ?v)beta(3). It is secreted by the liver and is functionally defined by the C-terminal fibrinogen (FBN)-like domain and an N-terminal coiled-coil domain. Angptl3 regulates circulating triglyceride levels during different nutritional states thereby mediating the feeding/fasting cycle. A deficiency of Angptl3 results in abnormally low lipid levels, and a repression of the protein may be protective against atherosclerosis. Angptl3 may also play an important role in hyperlipidemia in diabetes.

In Western blotting, this antibody recognizes proteins in MW range of 265-400 kDa, identified as different glycoforms of EMA. The α subunit has cell adhesive properties. It can act both as an adhesion and an anti-adhesion protein. EMA may provide a protective layer on epithelial cells against bacterial and enzyme attack. The β subunit contains a C-terminal domain, which is involved in cell signaling, through phosphorylations and protein-protein interactions. In immunohistochemical assays, it superbly stains routine formalin/paraffin carcinoma tissues. Antibody to EMA is useful as a pan-epithelial marker for detecting early metastatic loci of carcinoma in bone marrow or liver.

Isoform 2 is shown to enhance the induction of cytotoxic T-cells and selectively stimulates interferon gamma production in the presence of T-cell receptor signaling.
