GDE4 is a 314 amino acid cytoplasmic and multi-pass membrane protein that belongs to the glycerophosphoryl diester phosphodiesterase family. Expressed in small intestine, placenta, kidney, ovary, thymus, pancreas, spleen, liver and peripheral blood leukocytes, GDE4 contains one GDPD domain and exists as three alternatively spliced isoforms. GDE4 is encoded by a gene that maps to human chromosome 17, which comprises over 2.5% of the human genome and encodes over 1,200 genes. Two key tumor suppressor genes are associated with chromosome 17, namely, p53 and BRCA1.

ZAP70 protein is expressed in leukemic cells of approximately 25% of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) cases as well.Anti-ZAP70 expression is an excellent surrogate marker for the distinction between the Ig-mutated (anti-ZAP70 negative) and Ig-unmutated (anti-ZAP70 positive) CLL subtypes and can identify patient groups with divergent clinical courses. The anti-ZAP70 positive Ig-unmutated CLL cases have been shown to have a poorer prognosis.

Synaptobrevins/VAMPs, syntaxins, and the 25-kD synaptosomal-associated protein are the main components of a protein complex involved in the docking and/or fusion of synaptic vesicles with the presynaptic membrane. This gene is a member of the vesicle-associated membrane protein (VAMP)/synaptobrevin family. Because of its high homology to other known VAMPs, its broad tissue distribution, and its subcellular localization, the protein encoded by this gene was shown to be the human equivalent of the rodent cellubrevin. In platelets the protein resides on a compartment that is not mobilized to the plasma membrane on calcium or thrombin stimulation. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008].
