Beschreibung:   Zinc-finger proteins contain DNA-binding domains and have a wide variety of functions, most of which encompass some form of transcriptional activation or repression. The majority of zinc-finger proteins contain a Krüppel-type DNA binding domain and a KRAB domain, which is thought to interact with KAP1, thereby recruiting histone modifying proteins. Zinc finger protein 568 (ZNF568) is a 644 amino acid member of the Krüppel C2H2-type zinc-finger protein family. Localized to the nucleus, ZNF568 contains fifteen C2H2-type zinc fingers and one KRAB domain through which it is thought to be involved in DNA-binding and transcriptional regulation. Two isoforms of ZNF568 exist as a result of alternative splicing events.

Beschreibung:   This MAb reacts specifically with heat shock protein HSP27 in human and monkey tissues and cell lines such as MCF-7. HSP27, also referred to as the Estrogen-Regulated 24K protein and HSP28, is one of several small heat shock proteins produced by all organisms studied. HSP27 synthesis is induced by elevated temperature, as well as by estrogen in hormone responsive cells. Interestingly, human HSP27 also shares greater than 50% homology with low molecular weight Drosophila HSPs and mammalian α-crystalline lens protein. Because of the estrogen responsive nature of HSP27, this protein has been studied extensively in human estrogen responsive tissues such as cervix, endometrium and breast tissue. Therefore HSP27 may be useful in classifying various hormone sensitive tumors.

Beschreibung:   Ubiquitination is an important mechanism through which three classes of enzymes act in concert to target short-lived or abnormal proteins for destruction. The three classes of enzymes involved in ubiquitination are the ubiquitin-activating enzymes (E1s), the ubiquitin-conjugating enzymes (E2s) and the ubiquitin-protein ligases (E3s). ZNRF2 (zinc and ring finger 2), also known as RNF202, is a 242 amino acid peripheral membrane protein that contains one RING-type zinc finger and localises to the lysosome, as well as the endosome and the cell junction. Expressed at high levels in brain tissue, ZNRF2 is thought to function as an E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase that may be involved in the establishment and maintenance of neuronal transmission and plasticity. Upon DNA damage, ZNRF2 is subject to phosphorylation, probably by ATR or ATM.

Beschreibung:   This gene is an ortholog of the Drosophila fat gene, which encodes a tumor suppressor essential for controlling cell proliferation during Drosophila development. The gene product is a member of the cadherin superfamily, a group of integral membrane proteins characterized by the presence of cadherin-type repeats. In addition to containing 34 tandem cadherin-type repeats, the gene product has five epidermal growth factor (EGF)-like repeats and one laminin A-G domain. This gene is expressed at high levels in a number of fetal epithelia. Its product probably functions as an adhesion molecule and/or signaling receptor, and is likely to be important in developmental processes and cell communication. Transcript variants derived from alternative splicing and/or alternative promoter usage exist, but they have not been fully described. [provided by RefSeq].

Beschreibung:   WD-repeat proteins are a large family of eukaryotic proteins coordinating multi-protein complex assemblies. Their role has been implicated in multiple cellular processes including signal transduction, transcriptional regulation, cell cycle control and apoptosis. NRIP is a novel 860a.a nuclear protein consisting of seven conserved WD40 domains and one NLS motif. It binds to androgen and glucocorticoid receptors and up-regulates their transcriptional activity, thereby functioning as a nuclear receptor co-activator. Role of NRIP has been implicated in cell growth and also in cervical and prostrate cancer, thus indicating a potential therapeutic intervention. Northern Blot analysis detects a high expression of NRIP in skeletal muscle and testis and low expression in heart, prostrate and adrenal gland.

Beschreibung:   Members of the leucine-rich repeat family includes LRCH1, LRCH2, LRCH3 and LRCH4. All family members contain one calponin-homology domain and nine leucine-rich repeats. The best characterised leucine-rich repeat family member is LRCH4, which is suggested to be involved in ligand binding in the brain, with expression observed primarily in the hippocampus. As a cell adhesion molecule and signal receptor, LRCH4 may play an important role in maintenance of hippocampus-dependent memories, with defects in the gene possibly contributing to a loss of long-term memory. The gene encoding LRCH3 maps to human chromosome 3, which spans 200 million base pairs and encodes between 1,100 and 1,500 genes. There are three isoforms of LRCH3 that are produced as a result of alternative splicing events.

Beschreibung:   GPR120, a member of the rhodopsin family of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), is a 377 amino acid protein which is expressed in the intestine. GPR120 is a receptor for unsaturated long-chain FFAs (free fatty acids). FFAs act as signaling molecules and are an important energy source. They also employ various physiological responses through their GPCRs. One such response occurs when dietary FFAs stimulate GPR120. This stimulation promotes the secretion of glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) in vivo and in vitro. GLP-1 belongs to the class of molecules known as the incretins, which are associated with insulin secreted from the pancreas as a result of food intake. GLP-1 also inhibits glucagon and gastric acid secretion and gastric emptying. Consequently, the role of GPR120 in the secretion of GLP-1 is critical in the treatment of diabetes.

Beschreibung:   MEGF10 is a 1,140 amino acid protein encoded by the human gene MEGF10. MEGF10 belongs to the MEGF family and contains fifteen EGF-like domains and one EMI domain. The engulfment of dying cells is a specialized form of phagocytosis that is highly conserved across evolution and is mediated by the concerted action of several molecules. MEGF10 is an engulfment receptor protein that localizes to the plasma membrane in a punctuated pattern. The MEGF10 protein shares structural similarities with nematode engulfment receptor cell death abnormal-1 (CED-1). MEGF10 function is modulated by the ATP binding cassette transporter ABCA1, which is an ortholog to CED-7. It is expressed at the cell surface in clusters around cell corpses during engulfment, and during the engulfment of apoptotic thymocytes is recruited to the bottom of the forming phagocytic cup.

Beschreibung:   PLEKHJ1 is a 149 amino acid phosphoprotein that contains one PH (pleckstrin homology) domain and is expressed in testis and liver. The gene that encodes PLEKHJ1 maps to human chromosome 19, which consists of approximately 63 million bases and makes up over 2% of human genomic DNA. Chromosome 19 contains the greatest gene density of the human chromosomes and is the genetic home for a number of immunoglobulin superfamily members, including killer cell and leukocyte Ig-like receptors, ICAMs, the CEACAM and PSG families, and Fc?receptors. Key genes for eye color and hair color also map to chromosome 19. Peutz-Jeghers syndrome, spinocerebellar ataxia type 6, the stroke disorder CADASIL, hypercholesterolemia and insulin-dependent diabetes are also linked to chromosome 19.

Beschreibung:   The protein encoded by this gene is a membrane glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchored glycoprotein that tends to aggregate into rod-like structures. The encoded protein contains a highly unstable region of five tandem octapeptide repeats. This gene is found on chromosome 20, approximately 20 kbp upstream of a gene which encodes a biochemically and structurally similar protein to the one encoded by this gene. Mutations in the repeat region as well as elsewhere in this gene have been associated with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, fatal familial insomnia, Gerstmann-Straussler disease, Huntington disease-like 1, and kuru. An overlapping open reading frame has been found for this gene that encodes a smaller, structurally unrelated protein, AltPrp. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
