Due to the chromosomal location of the gene encoding GRINA, studies have linked possible GRINA involvement with a form of idiopathic generalized epilepsy.

HLA-B belongs to the HLA class I heavy chain paralogues. This class I molecule is a heterodimer consisting of a heavy chain and a light chain (beta-2 microglobulin). The heavy chain is anchored in the membrane. Class I molecules play a central role in the immune system by presenting peptides derived from the endoplasmic reticulum lumen. They are expressed in nearly all cells. The heavy chain is approximately 45 kDa and its gene contains 8 exons. Exon 1 encodes the leader peptide, exon 2 and 3 encode the alpha1 and alpha2 domains, which both bind the peptide, exon 4 encodes the alpha3 domain, exon 5 encodes the transmembrane region and exons 6 and 7 encode the cytoplasmic tail. Polymorphisms within exon 2 and exon 3 are responsible for the peptide binding specificity of each class one molecule. Typing for these polymorphisms is routinely done for bone marrow and kidney transplantation. Hundreds of HLA-B alleles have been described.

ERMAP is a single-pass type one membrane protein that belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily. Expressed in cord blood, fetal liver and adult bone marrow, ERMAP is thought to function as a cell adhesion molecule in erythroid cells and is responsible for expression of the Scianna/Radin (Sc/Rd) blood group antigen system. A fetus expressing different blood antigens than its mother may cause the mother to produce against the fetal blood. The presence of the J domain defines a protein as a member of the DnaJ family. DnaJ heat shock induced proteins are from the bacterium Escherichia coli and are under the control of the htpR regulatory protein. The DnaJ proteins play a critical role in the HSP 70 chaperone machine by interacting with HSP 70 to stimulate ATP hydrolysis. The proteins contain cysteine rich regions that are composed of zinc fingers that form a peptide binding domain responsible for the chaperone function. DnaJ proteins are important mediators of proteolysis and are involved in the regulation of protein degradation, exocytosis and endocytosis. DnaJB2 (DnaJ homolog subfamily B member 2), also known as HSJ1 or HSPF3, is expressed almost exclusively in the brain, with the highest levels in the frontal cortex and hippocampus. Recent studies have shown that, compared with expression in normal or benign prostate epithelium, AMACR is consistently overexpressed in prostate cancer epithelium, making it a specific marker for cancer cells within the prostate gland. Hemagglutinin (HA) is a class I viral fusion protein from Influenza virus. It is a major glycoprotein, comprising over 80% of the envelope proteins present in the virus particle. Heterotrimeric CstF recognizes GU- and U-rich sequences located downstream of the polyadenylation site on RNA. CstF-77 (cleavage stimulation factor, 77 kDa subunit), also known as CstF3, is one of the three subunits comprising CstF. It can exist as a homodimer and functions as the bridge, directly interacting with the other two CstF subunits, namely CstF-64 and CstF-50. CstF-77 is highly conserved among eukaryotes. It contains an Alpha-helical structure with 11 HAT (Half-a-TPR-containing) repeats and is essential for CstF assembly. In addition, CstF-77 is capable of interacting with CPSF1 and FCP1, other factors involved in polyadenylation.
