TAL1 disruption at 1p32, a common rearrangement in the T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia, usually results in the formation of a SCL interrupting locus (SIL)-TAL1 fusion product. SIL is an immediate early gene whose expression is associated with cell proliferation. The Sil protein exhibits ubiquitous expression in hematopoietic cell lines and tissues. However, Sil protein levels remain tightly regulated during the cell cycle, achieving peak levels in mitosis and diminishing on transition to G1 phase. Overexpression of Sil in primary adenocarcinomas predicts metastatic spread, especially in lung tumors with increased mitotic activity.

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a major cause of respiratory illness in young children. RSV infection produces a variety of signs and symptoms involving different areas of the respiratory tract, from the nose to the lungs. RSV is a negative sense, enveloped RNA virus. The virion is variable in shape and size with average diameter of between 120 and 300 nm. The 63 kD RSV fusion protein of the RSS 2 strain (subtype A) directs fusion of viral and cellular membranes, results in viral penetration, and can direct fusion of infected cells with adjoining cells, resulting in the formation of syncytia or multi nucleated giant cells.

Fibronectin is an extracellular matrix glycoprotein present on most cell surfaces, in extracellular fluids and in plasma. A high molecular weight heterodimeric protein, it was originally discovered as a protein missing from the surfaces of virus-transformed cells, and it has been shown to be involved in various functions including cell adhesion, cell motility and wound healing. Alternative splicing and glycosylation give rise to several different forms of Fibronectin, some of which exhibit restricted tissue distribution or association with malignancies. It has been shown that Myofibroblasts phenotype formation correlates with the occurrence of glycosylated Fibronectin and Fibronectin splice variants in Dupuytren's disease.

UFD1L is a member of the UFD1 family of proteins and is a component of the ubiquitin-dependent proteolytic pathway which degrades ubiquitin fusion proteins. This complex, also containing UFD1L, VCP and NPLOC4, binds ubiquitinated proteins and is required for the export of misfolded proteins from the ER to the cytoplasm for disposal. The NPLOC4-UFD1L-VCP complex also regulates spindle disassembly at the end of mitosis and is necessary for the formation of a closed nuclear envelope. UFD1L gene hemizygosity is the cause of some developmental defects including DiGeorge syndrome (DGS), velo-cardio-facial syndrome (VCFS) and Opitz G/BBB syndrome. UFD1L has 2 named isoforms produced by alternative splicing.

Angiopoietin-like protein 3 (Angptl3) functions as a potent lipoprotein lipase inhibitor and is an important component of plasma triglyceride homeostasis. Angptl3 also plays a role in adipose formation and angiogenesis through its interaction with integrin ?v)beta(3). It is secreted by the liver and is functionally defined by the C-terminal fibrinogen (FBN)-like domain and an N-terminal coiled-coil domain. Angptl3 regulates circulating triglyceride levels during different nutritional states thereby mediating the feeding/fasting cycle. A deficiency of Angptl3 results in abnormally low lipid levels, and a repression of the protein may be protective against atherosclerosis. Angptl3 may also play an important role in hyperlipidemia in diabetes.

FPGT functions to reutilize the L-fucose that is produced uopn glycoprotein and glycolipid turnover.

von Willebrand Factor (vWF) is a multimeric glycoprotein that is found in endothelial cells, plasma and platelets. It acts as a carrier protein for Factor VIII and promotes platelet adhesion and aggregation. vWF undergoes a variety of posttranslational modifications that influence the affinity and availability for Factor VIII, including cleavage of the propeptide and formation of N-terminal disulfide bonds. This antibody helps to establish the endothelial nature of some lesions of disputed histogenesis, e.g. Kaposi's sarcoma and cardiac myxoma. It is widely used for differentiating vascular lesions from those of other tissue differentiation within a panel of other vascular markers although not all tumors of endothelial differentiation contain this antigen.

Rab17 belongs to the Rab family of small Ras-like GTPases. It is specifically expressed in epithelial cells and is upregulated during cell polarization. Immunofluorescence staining studies indicate that Rab17 is associated with the perinuclear recycling endosome in nonpolarized epithelial cells and with the apical recycling endosome in polarized epithelial cells. The function of Rab17 remains unclear. Reports of Rab17 colocalization with internalized IgA in the apical endosome suggest that it may regulate receptor-mediated transcytosis. Rab17 has also been shown to regulate melanocytic filopodia formation and melanosome trafficking. siRNA knockdown of Rab17 in melanoma cells induces melanosome accumulation in the cell periphery.
