Expressed at high levels in brain and present at lower levels in lung tissue, EPHEXIN interacts with EphA4 and functions as a guanine nucleotide exchange factor (GEF) that is capable of activating Rho A, Rac 1 and Cdc42 and is thought to play a role in axon guidance and growth cone collapse. EPHEXIN is subject to Src-dependent phosphorylation, an event that increases the GEF activity of EPHEXIN toward Rho A. Human EPHEXIN, which exists as multiple alternatively spliced isoforms, shares a high degree of sequence homology with its mouse counterpart, suggesting a conserved role between species.

GLB1L3 is a 653 amino acid protein belonging to the glycosyl hydrolase 35 family. GLB1L3 exists as three alternatively spliced isoforms and is encoded by a gene that maps to human chromosome 11q25. With approximately 135 million base pairs and 1,400 genes, chromosome 11 makes up around 4% of human genomic DNA and is considered a gene and disease association dense chromosome. The chromosome 11 encoded Atm gene is important for regulation of cell cycle arrest and apoptosis following double strand DNA breaks. Atm mutation leads to the disorder known as ataxia-telangiectasia. Jervell and Lange-Nielsen syndrome, Jacobsen syndrome, Niemann-Pick disease, hereditary angioedema and Smith-Lemli-Opitz syndrome are also associated with defects in chromosome 11.

Isocitrate dehydrogenases catalyse the oxidative decarboxylation of isocitrate to 2-oxoglutarate. These enzymes belong to two distinct subclasses, one of which utilises NAD(+) as the electron acceptor and the other NADP(+). Five isocitrate dehydrogenases have been reported: three NAD(+)-dependent isocitrate dehydrogenases, which localise to the mitochondrial matrix, and two NADP(+)-dependent isocitrate dehydrogenases, one of which is mitochondrial and the other predominantly cytosolic. NAD(+)-dependent isocitrate dehydrogenases catalyse the allosterically regulated rate-limiting step of the tricarboxylic acid cycle. Each isozyme is a heterotetramer that is composed of two alpha subunits, one beta subunit, and one gamma subunit. The protein encoded by this gene is the beta subunit of one isozyme of NAD(+)-dependent isocitrate dehydrogenase. Three alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described for this gene.

Expressed in placenta and skeletal muscle and present at lower levels in brain, heart and pancreas, TRIM7 localises to both the cytoplasm and the nucleus where it exists as dimers and is thought to participate in the initiation of glycogen synthesis. Multiple isoforms of TRIM7 exist due to alternative splicing events.
