IDI1 is a peroxisomally localised enzyme that catalyses the interconversion of isopentenyl diphosphate (IPP) to its highly electrophilic isomer, dimethylallyl diphosphate (DMAPP). There is reduction in IPP isomerase activity in peroxisomal deficiency diseases such as Zellweger syndrome and neonatal adrenoleukodystrophy.
