NOSTRIN (nitric oxide synthase trafficker isoform 1), also known as endothelial nitric oxide synthase traffic inducer, is a member of the Pombe Cdc15 homology (PCH) family of proteins. NOSTRIN is expressed in the vascular endothelial cells of highly vascularized tissues such as placenta, lung, kidney and heart. It consists of an N-terminal Cdc15 domain with an FCH (Fes/CIP homology) region, two coiled coil domains and a C-terminal SH3 domain. NOSTRIN typically exists as a trimer. It functions as an adaptor protein binding to caveolin-1 via an internal domain and NOS3 via its SH3 domain, forming a ternary complex which facilitates caveolar transport of NOS3. The NOS3 protein is responsible for the production of nitric oxide (NO), a potent mediator in various biological processes. The translocation of NOS3 from the plasma membrane to intracellular vesicle-like structures diminishes NO production. NOSTRIN also interacts with Dynamin and N-WASP via its SH3 domain.

Glucose Oxidase is a dimeric enzyme that binds to _-D-glucose and aids in its oxidation into D-glucono-1,5-lactone which then hydrolyzes to gluconic acid. Flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD) is a cofactor to Glucose Oxidase that acts as the initial electron acceptor and is required for this oxidation to occur. Glucose Oxidase is a natural preservative found in honey, where it reduces atmospheric oxygen into hydrogen peroxide which acts as an antibacterial barrier. Glucose Oxidase is also commonly used in biosensors in which it conveys levels of glucose by keeping track of the number of electrons passed through the enzyme. In this application, Glucose Oxidase is connected to an electrode and the resulting charge is measured.

Peroxiredoxin (Prx) is an antioxidant enzyme detoxifying reactive oxygen species and has a cysteine at the active site. Prx enzymes modulate various receptor signaling pathways and protect cells from oxidatively induced death. Peroxiredoxin 1 to 4 have two conserved Cys residues corresponding to Cys51 and Cys172 of mammalian Peroxiredoxin 1. The active site cysteine(Cys51) is oxidised to cysteine sulfenic acid(Cys51-SOH) when a peroxide is reduced. Because Cys51-SOH is unstable, it forms a disulfide with Cys172-SH which comes from the other subunit of the homodimer. The disulfide is then reduced back to the Prx active thiol form by the thioredoxin-thioredoxin reductase system. However, the formation of the disulfide is a slow process. Thus under oxidative stress conditions, the sulfenic intermediate(Cys51-SOH) can be easily over oxidised to cysteine sulfinic acid(Cys-SO2H) or cysteine sulfonic acid(Cys-SO3H) before it is able to form a disulfide. Recent studies suggest that over oxidised Prx can be reduced back to the active form during recovery after oxidative stress.

Receptor that mediates the recognition, internalization and degradation of oxidatively modified low density lipoprotein (oxLDL) by vascular endothelial cells. OxLDL is a marker of atherosclerosis that induces vascular endothelial cell activation and dysfunction, resulting in pro-inflammatory responses, pro-oxidative conditions and apoptosis. Its association with oxLDL induces the activation of NF-kappa-B through an increased production of intracellular reactive oxygen and a variety of pro-atherogenic cellular responses including a reduction of nitric oxide (NO) release, monocyte adhesion and apoptosis. In addition to binding oxLDL, it acts as a receptor for the HSP70 protein involved in antigen cross-presentation to naive T-cells in dendritic cells, thereby participating in cell-mediated antigen cross-presentation. Also involved in inflammatory process, by acting as a leukocyte-adhesion molecule at the vascular interface in endotoxin-induced inflammation. Also acts as a receptor for advanced glycation end (AGE) products, activated platelets, monocytes, apoptotic cells and both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria (By similarity).
