Human serum albumin is the most abundant protein in human blood plasma. It is produced in the liver. Albumin comprises about half of the blood serum protein. It is soluble and monomeric. The gene for albumin is located on chromosome 4 and mutations in this gene can result in various anomalous proteins. The human albumin gene is 16,961 nucleotides long from the putative ?cap? site to the first poly(A) addition site. It is split into 15 exons that are symmetrically placed within the 3 domains thought to have arisen by triplication of a single primordial domain.

Tumour Necrosis Factor Ligand Superfamily Member 15 (TNFSF15) is a new member of the tumour necrosis factor family. TNFSF15 is predominantly an endothelial cell-specific gene, and recombinant TNFSF15 is a potent inhibitor of endothelial cell proliferation, angiogenesis and tumour growth. TNFSF15 exerts two activities on endothelial cells: early G1 arrest of G0/G1-cells responding to growth stimuli and programmed cell death of proliferating cells. These activities are highly specific to endothelial cells. TNFSF15 is also able to regulate the expression of several important genes involved in angiogenesis. These findings are consistent with the view that TNFSF15 functions as an autocrine cytokine to inhibit angiogenesis and stabilise the vasculature.

PCBP1 appears to be multifunctional. It along with PCBP-2 and hnRNPK corresponds to the major cellular poly (rC)-binding protein. It contains three K-homologous (KH) domains which may be involved in RNA binding. This protein together with PCBP-2 also functions as translational coactivators of poliovirus RNA via a sequence-specific interaction with stem-loop IV of the IRES and promote poliovirus RNA replication by binding to its 5'-terminal cloverleaf structure. It has also been implicated in translational control of the 15-lipoxygenase mRNA, human Papillomavirus type 16 L2 mRNA, and hepatitis A virus RNA. PCBP1 is also suggested to play a part in formation of a sequence-specific alpha-globin mRNP complex which is associated with alpha-globin mRNA stability.This intronless gene is thought to be generated by retrotransposition of a fully processed PCBP-2 mRNA. This gene and PCBP-2 has paralogues PCBP3 and PCBP4 which is thought to arose as a result of duplication events of entire genes. The protein encoded by this gene appears to be multifunctional. HHV8 (K8.1) Peptide pool is a lyophilised mixture of 55 peptides from glycoprotein K8.1 of human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8) and consists of 15-mer peptides with 11-amino-acid overlaps that cover amino acids 1 to 228 on K8.1. Expressed in the late-lytic phase, K8.1 is a viral envelope protein that binds to heparin sulfate on the cell surface and facilitates HHV 8 infection (Zoeteweij et al; Birkmann <i>et al.</i>; Wang <i>et al.</i>). Viral peptide pools are useful for a broad range of applications, including vaccine development, immunological research, and diagnostic assay development.
