Interleukin 2 (IL 2), also termed T-cell growth factor, is a member of the cytokine family which includes IL-4, IL-7, IL-9, IL-15 and IL-21. Each member of this family has a four alpha helix bundle. IL-2 signals through the IL-2 receptor, a complex consisting of tree subunits, termed alpha, beta and gamma. The IL-2 R gamma is shared by cytokine receptors of all members of cytokine family. Mature mouse IL2 shares 56% and 73% aa sequence identity with human and rat IL2, respectively. IL-2 is produced by CD4+ T cell, CD8+ T cells, gamma delta T cells, B cells, dendritic cells and eosinophils, and plays a vital role in key function of the immune system, tolerance and immunity, primarily via its potent stimulatory activity for T cells.Thus, IL2 may be a key cytokine in the natural suppression of autoimmunity.

This protein together with PCBP-1 also functions as translational coactivators of poliovirus RNA via a sequence-specific interaction with stem-loop IV of the IRES and promote poliovirus RNA replication by binding to its 5'-terminal cloverleaf structure. It has also been implicated in translational control of the 15-lipoxygenase mRNA, human Papillomavirus type 16 L2 mRNA, and hepatitis A virus RNA. The protein is also suggested to play a part in formation of a sequence-specific alpha-globin mRNP complex which is associated with alpha-globin mRNA stability. This gene and PCBP-1 has paralogues PCBP3 and PCBP4 which is thought to arose as a result of duplication events of entire genes.The protein encoded by this gene appears to be multifunctional. This gene and PCBP-1 has paralogues PCBP3 and PCBP4 which is thought to arose as a result of duplication events of entire genes. It also has two processed pseudogenes PCBP2P1 and PCBP2P2. There are presently two alternatively spliced transcript variants described for this gene.

Stimulating T cells with BKV (LT) Peptide pool releases downstream cytokines and upregulates activation markers, enabling antigen-specific T cells to be detected or isolated for analysis. BKV Peptide pool is a lyophilised mixture of 171 peptides from the Large T (LT) antigen of BK polyomavirus (BKV), and consists of 15-mer peptides with 11-amino-acid overlaps that cover amino acids 1 to 695 on LT antigen. LT antigen is an early viral protein (Low <i>et al.</i>) that contributes to the transformation and maintenance of host cells (Nakshatri <i>et al.</i>). It has been found to bind to a subset of tumor suppressor proteins (Harris <i>et al.</i>), and its co-expression with p53 has been observed in polyomavirus-associated nephropathy (Seemayer <i>et al.</i>). Viral peptide pools are useful for a broad range of applications, including vaccine development, immunological research, and diagnostic assay development.

The IL-17 family include IL-17A, IL-17B, IL-17C, IL-17D, IL-17E (also called IL-25), and IL-17F. The family is comprised of at least six proinflammatory cytokines that share a conserved cysteine-knot structure but diverge at the N-terminus. All members of the IL-17 family have a similar protein structure, with four highly conserved cysteine residues critical to their 3-dimensional shape, yet they have no sequence similarity to any other known cytokines. IL-17 family members are glycoproteins secreted as dimers that induce local cytokine production and recruit granulocytes to sites of inflammation. IL-17 is induced by IL-15 and IL-23, mainly in activated CD4+ T cells distinct from Th1 or Th2 cells. IL-17F is the most homologous to IL-17, but is induced only by IL-23 in activated monocytes.
