Cyclin dependent kinase 5 (Cdk5) is a key regulator of cell cycle progression in neuronal differentiation that physically associates with and is activated by the neuron-specific protein p35. CDK5RAP1 (CDK5 regulatory subunit-associated protein 1) specifically inhibits Cdk5 activation by p35 through formation of a dimer that inhibits kinase activity. CDK5RAP2, also known as Centrosome-associated protein 215, is a 1893 amino acid centrosomal protein that regulates activity of CDK5 through complex formation with CDK5RAP1. Expressed in placenta, liver, pancreas, heart, skeletal muscle, lung, brain and kidney, CDK5RAP2 associates with centrosomes throughout the cell cycle. Mutations in the gene encoding CDK5RAP2 results in primary microencephaly autosomal recessive type 3, which is characterised by markedly reduced head sise, brain weight and significant neurological deficits. There are four isoforms of CDK5RAP2 that are produced as a result of alternative splicing events.

SRF-binding sites are also constitutive promoter elements in many muscle-specific promoters. Two related Ets domain proteins, Elk-1 and SRF accessory protein-1 (SAP-1), have DNA binding properties identical to that of p62TCF. Elk-1 and SAP-1 contain two homologous regions of which the two amino terminal regions, the Ets domain (box A) and the B box, mediate ternary complex formation with SRF. The third homologous region, the C box located toward the C-terminus of the proteins, contains conserved consensus phosphorylation sites for MAP kinases.

Terminally differentiating mammalian epidermal cells acquire an insoluble, 10 to 20 nm thick protein deposit on the intracellular surface of the plasma membrane known as the cross-linked cell envelope (CE). Reacts with human CD59, a 20 kDa glycosyl phosphatidyl-inositol (GPI)-anchored cell surface protein. CD59 regulates complement-mediated cell lysis, and it is involved in lymphocyte signal transduction. This protein is a potent inhibitor of the complement membrane attack complex, whereby it binds complement C8 and/or C9 during the assembly of this complex, thereby inhibiting the incorporation of multiple copies of C9 into the complex, which is necessary for osmolytic pore formation. It inhibits formation of MAC, thus protecting cells from complement-mediated lysis. Genetic defects in GPI-anchor attachment, that cause a reduction or loss of CD59 and CD55 on erythrocytes produce the symptoms of the disease paroxysmal hemoglobinuria (PNH). This MAb is useful for study on GPI-anchored proteins, PNH and CD59 functions. CD59 is widely distributed on cells in all tissues. The expression of CD59 on erythrocytes is important for their survival.
