PCDHB11 is a member of the protocadherin beta gene cluster, one of three related gene clusters tandemly linked on chromosome five. PCDHB11 clusters demonstrate an unusual genomic organisation similar to that of B-cell and T-cell receptor gene clusters. The beta cluster contains 16 genes and 3 pseudogenes, each encoding 6 extracellular cadherin domains and a cytoplasmic tail that deviates from others in the cadherin superfamily. The extracellular domains interact in a homophilic manner to specify differential cell-cell connections. Unlike the alpha and gamma clusters, the transcripts from these genes are made up of only one large exon, not sharing common 3' exons as expected. These neural cadherin-like cell adhesion proteins are integral plasma membrane proteins. Their specific functions are unknown but they most likely play a critical role in the establishment and function of specific cell-cell neural connections.

WRN is a DNA helicase encoded by chromosome 8 and shown defective in those with the early aging disorder Werner syndrome. Chromosome 8 is also associated with Pfeiffer syndrome, congenital hypothyroidism and Waardenburg syndrome. The FAM91A1 gene product has been provisionally designated FAM91A1 pending further characterization.

T2R16 is a 291 amino acid multi-pass membrane protein that belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor T2R family. Acting in the oral cavity and the gastrointestinal tract, T2R16 is a gustducin-coupled receptor that is implicated in the perception of bitter compounds. T2R16 mediates responses to certain taste through PLC ∫2, a phospholipase C selectively expressed in taste tissue, and the calcium-regulated cation channel TRPM5. Expressed in a subset of gustducin-positive taste receptor cells of the tongue and epithelia, T2R16 confers bitter perception of salicin to non-taster mice. The gene that encodes T2R16 consists of 996 bases and maps to human chromosome 7q31. Chromosome 7 houses over 1,000 genes, comprises nearly 5% of the human genome and has been linked to Osteogenesis imperfecta, Pendred syndrome, Lissencephaly, Citrullinemia and Shwachman-Diamond syndrome. The Lys-172 polymorphism in T2R16 is associated with genetic susceptibility to alcoholism.

Hemagglutinin (HA) is a class I viral fusion protein from Influenza virus. It is a major glycoprotein, comprising over 80% of the envelope proteins present in the virus particle. HA binds to sialic acid-containing receptors on the cell surface, bringing about the attachment of the virus particle to the cell, and is responsible for penetration of the virus into the cell cytoplasm by mediating the fusion of the membrane of the endocytosed virus particle with the endosomal membrane. The extent of infection into host organism is determined by HA. In natural infection, inactive HA is matured into HA1 and HA2 outside the cell by one or more trypsin-like, arginine-specific endoproteases secreted by the bronchial epithelial cells. CRP2BP is a 782 amino acid protein encoded by the human gene CSRP2BP. CRP2BP specifically interacts with the double LIM domain protein CRP2. The LIM domain is a conserved cysteine and histidine-containing structural module of two tandemly arranged zinc fingers. It has been identified in single or multiple copies in a variety of regulatory proteins, either in combination with defined functional domains, like homeodomains, or alone, like in the CRP family of LIM proteins. Members of the cysteine- and glycine-rich protein family (CRP1, CRP2 and CRP3) contain two zinc-binding LIM domains, LIM1 (amino-terminal) and LIM2 (carboxyl-terminal), and are implicated in diverse cellular processes linked to differentiation, growth control and pathogenesis. Although present in cytoplasm, CRP2BP is mainly a ubiquitously expressed nuclear protein, with highest expression in skeletal muscle and heart.
