Recognizes a glycoprotein of ~200 kDa, identified as carbonic anhydrase IX (CAIX/gp200). Carbonic Anhydrases (CAs) are members of a large family of zinc metallo-enzymes that catalyze the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide. CAs are involved in a variety of biological processes, including respiration, calcification, acid-base balance, bone resorption and the formation of aqueous humor, cerebrospinal fluid, saliva and gastric juice. They show extensive diversity in distribution and in their subcellular localization. CA IX is specifically expressed in clear-cell renal carcinomas.

The RING finger motif is a specialized DNA-binding zinc finger domain found in many transcriptional regulatory proteins. The ring finger protein (RNF) family includes any protein containing the signature RING finger motif. RNF186 (RING finger protein 186) is a 227 amino acid multi-pass membrane protein containing one RING-type zinc finger. The gene encoding RNF186 maps to human chromosome 1p36.13. Chromosome 1 is the largest human chromosome spanning about 260 million base pairs and making up 8% of the human genome. There are about 3,000 genes on chromosome 1, and considering the great number of genes there are also a large number of diseases associated with chromosome 1. Notably, the rare aging disease Hutchinson-Gilford progeria is associated with the LMNA gene which encodes lamin A. The MUTYH gene is located on chromosome 1 and is partially responsible for familial adenomatous polyposis. Stickler syndrome, Parkinsons, Gaucher disease and Usher syndrome are also associated with chromosome 1.

Matrin 3 (MATR 3) is an internal nuclear matrix protein that may play a role in transcription or may interact with other nuclear matrix proteins to form the internal fibrogranular network. In association with the SFPQ-NONO heteromer MATR 3 may play a role in nuclear retention of defective RNAs. MATR3 forms part of complex consisting of SFPQ, NONO and MATR3.The protein contains 1 matrin type zinc finger and 2 RRM (RNA recognition motif) domains. Two transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified for this gene.

KLHL3 protein contains a poxvirus and zinc finger domain at the N-terminus and six tandem repeats (kelch repeats) at the C-terminus. At the amino acid level, KLHL3 shares 77% similarity with Drosophila kelch and 89% similarity with Mayven (KLHL2), another human kelch homolog. At least three isoforms are produced and may be the result of alternative promoter usage. The KLHL3 maps within the smallest commonly deleted segment in myeloid leukemias characterized by a deletion of 5q; however, no inactivating mutations of KLHL3 could be detected in malignant myeloid disorders with loss of 5q.

CHURC1 is a 112 amino acid protein that plays a critical role in neural induction during embryogenesis. The fibroblast growth family of proteins (FGFs) has been identified as necessary factors in mesoderm formation and neural induction. CHURC1, a putative zinc finger protein, is a transcriptional activator that mediates FGF Signalling. Furthermore, CHURC1 is thought to play a role in the regulation of cell movement. Although CHURC1 does not bind to DNA, it functions as a transcriptional regulator and a protein-interaction factor. Two isoforms of CHURC1 exist as a result of alternative splicing events.

This gene product belongs to the histone deacetylase family. Histone deacetylases act via the formation of large multiprotein complexes, and are responsible for the deacetylation of lysine residues at the N-terminal regions of core histones (H2A, H2B, H3 and H4). This protein forms transcriptional repressor complexes by associating with many different proteins, including YY1, a mammalian zinc-finger transcription factor. Thus, it plays an important role in transcriptional regulation, cell cycle progression and developmental events. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. LRSAM1 is an E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase that mediates monoubiquitination of TSG101 at multiple sites, leading to inactivation of the ability of TSG101 to sort endocytic (EGF receptors) and exocytic (HIV-1 viral proteins) cargos. It selectively regulates cell adhesion molecules and plays a role in receptor endocytosis and viral budding. LRSAM1 contains a RING-type zinc finger, 5 leucine-rich repeats and 1 SAM (sterile alpha motif) domain. The coiled coil domains interact with the SB domain of TSG101. The PTAP motifs mediate the binding to UEV domains. There are 3 isoforms produced by alternative splicing.

GATA1 is a Cys2/Cys2 zinc finger DNA binding protein that is expressed primarily in erythroid, megakaryocytic, mast cells and eosinophilic cells. It belongs to the GATA family of transcription factors. GATA1 is a transcriptional activator which probably serves as a general switch factor for erythroid development. It binds to DNA sites with the consensus sequence [AT]GATA[AG] within regulatory regions of globin genes and of other genes expressed in erythroid cells. The protein also plays an important role in erythroid development by regulating the switch from fetal hemoglobin production to adult hemoglobin.

The protein encoded by this gene is a type I transmembrane protein that localizes to the endocytic pathway. This protein contains a RING zinc-finger motif and has been shown to possess E3 ubiquitin ligase activity. Expression of this gene in retrovirally transduced T cell hybridoma significantly inhibits activation-induced IL2 and IL4 cytokine production. Induced expression of this gene was observed in anergic CD4(+) T cells, which suggested a role in the induction of anergic phenotype. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been reported. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008].
