The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the STAT protein family. In response to cytokines and growth factors, STAT family members are phosphorylated by the receptor associated kinases, and then form homo- or heterodimers that translocate to the cell nucleus where they act as transcription activators. This protein can be activated by various ligands including interferon-alpha, interferon-gamma, EGF, PDGF and IL6. This protein mediates the expression of a variety of genes, which is thought to be important for cell viability in response to different cell stimuli and pathogens. Members of the calsyntenin protein family are localized to the post-synaptic membrane of exicitatory central nervous system (CNS) synapses. Calsyntenin-2, also known as Alcadein-gamma, is a 955 amino acid protein that localizes to the endoplasmic reticulum, golgi apparatus and plasma membranes. Containing 2 cadherin-like repeats in its N-terminal extracellular region, calsyntenin-2 binds synaptic calcium with its cytoplasmic domain, suggesting a role in the modulation of calcium-mediated postsynaptic signals. Under normal physiological conditions, calsyntenin-2 is protoeolytically processed in an event in which the primary zeta-cleavage generates a short C-terminal transmembrane fragment and a long extracellular N-terminal domain.

The 11B11 antibody binds to mouse Interleukin-4 (IL-4), a 14 kDa cytokine that is largely secreted by activated T cells of the Th2 subset, and to some degree by NKT and mast cells. This cytokine acts as a stimulatory factor for B cells, inducing their proliferation and differentiation, as well as playing a role in immunoglobulin class-switching. IL-4 may also provide autocrine stimulation for T cells, and affect the function of antigen presenting cells such as macrophages and dendritic cells. IL-4 can bind and signal via three cell surface receptor types: CD124 by itself, CD124 in combination with the common gamma chain (type I complex), or CD124 combined with CD213a1 (type II complex).

L2 is equipped with multiple nuclear retention signals (Darshan <i>et al.</i>; Mamoor <i>et al.</i>), and enters the nuclei of host cells via several import pathways mediated by Kapα2β1 heterodimers, Kapβ2, and Kapβ3 (Darshan <i>et al.</i>). The GL-1 monoclonal antibody reacts specifically with the mouse B7-2 (also known as CD86), a costimulatory molecule expressed by B and T lymphocytes, macrophages (thioglycollate-induced from peritoneum), astrocytes and dendritic cells. The memory CD4+ T lymphocytes express CD86 (as mRNA and protein). CD86, and the B7-1 (CD 80) molecule, are ligands for CD152 and CD28, and influence the costimulatory interactions between lymphocytes B and T. B7-2 is also involved in the mouse natural killer cell-mediated cytotoxicity. The GL-1 antibody blocks the mixed lymphocyte reaction (MLR) and inhibits the T-cells stimulation by antigen-presenting cells. Mixtures of anti-B7-1 antibody and GL-1 were reported to inhibit the interaction between CD125 and its ligand with the in vivo priming of cytotoxic T lymphocytes.
