Contactin 2 is a neuronal cell adhesion molecule (CAM) that influences the formation of axon connections in the developing nervous system. Contactin 2 is a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily (IgSF) and contains a glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchor, six immunogobulin (Ig)-like and four Fibronectin type III (FNIII)-like domains. Contactin 2 is expressed predominantly during neural development on the cell membrane of axons in nerve fiber tracts in order to guide commissural axons without promoting their growth. Contactin 2 binds with NgCAM in the plane of the same membrane (cis-binding). The Contactin 2 heterophilic (Contactin 2/NgCAM and Contactin 2/NrCAM) binding sites are localized to the first four Ig domains. The Contactin 2 homophilic (Contactin 2/Contactin 2) binding site is localized to the FNIII domain.

HOOK1, a cytoskeletal linker protein, may play a role in endocytic membrane trafficking. It exists as a homodimer, most likely mediated through its central coiled-coil domain. HOOK1 interacts with VPS18 and is required for spermatid differentiation, in which it is most likely involved in the positioning of the manchette microtubules and the flagellum. HOOK1 localizes primarily to the cytoplasm and does not associate with the Golgi complex, unlike HOOK3, which participates in the organization of the cis-Golgi compartment.

Alcian Blue solution has been used in the histological staining of acidic glycosaminoglycans (GAGs; mucopolysaccharides) that are carboxylated or sulfated. Sulfated glycosaminoglycans appear to be the preferred substrate for alcian blue at pH 2.5. Alcian blue has been used to stain hyaluronan (HA), a nonsulfated GAG, but the intensity of the staining of HA is affected by the method of tissue fixation used. Alcian blue staining of GAGs in tissue may be modified through the addition of an electrolyte such as magnesium chloride.
