It is activated by a range of compounds that induce CYP3A4, including dexamethasone and rifampicin. Additional transcript variants derived from alternative promoter usage, alternative splicing, and/or alternative polyadenylation exist, but they have not been fully described.

RFC, also named activator 1, is a protein complex consisting of five distinct subunits of 140, 40, 38, 37, and 36 kD. RFC5 is the 36 kD subunit. This subunit can interact with the C-terminal region of PCNA. It forms a core complex with the 38 and 40 kDa subunits. Human delta(3,5)-Delta(2,4)-dienoyl-CoA isomerase(ECH1) is a member of the hydratase/isomerase superfamily and contains a C-terminal peroxisomal targeting sequence and localises to peroxisomes. ECH1 shows high sequence similarity to enoyl-CoA hydratases of several species, particularly within a conserved domain characteristic of these proteins. The rat orthologlocalises to the matrix of both the peroxisome and mitochondria.It can isomerize 3-trans, 5-cis-dienoyl-CoA to 2-trans,4-trans-dienoyl-CoA, indicating that it is a delta3,5-delta2,4-dienoyl-CoA isomerase.
