The CD6 glycoprotein is tyrosine phosphorylated during TCR-mediated T cell activation. CD6 shows significant homology to CD5. CD6 is present on mature thymocytes, peripheral T cells and a subset of B cells. Antibodies to CD6 are used to deplete T cells from bone marrow transplants to prevent graft versus host disease.

Dyrk is the homolog of the Drosophila mnb (minibrain) gene, which is required for neurogenesis (1–3). Dyrk is a dual-specificity tyrosine kinase and serine/threonine kinase, which is itself regulated by tyrosine phosphorylation (1). Several mammalian Dyrk related proteins have been identified and are thought to compose a family of dual specificity protein kinases (4). Dyrk family members, including Dyrk1A (originally Dyrk), Dyrk1B, Dryk1C, Dyrk2, Dyrk3, Dyrk4A and Dyrk4B, are thought to be involved in diverse cellular functions (4). Dyrk1A is a candidate gene that may be involved in Downs syndrome, and it has been found to be somewhat overexpressed in Downs syndrome (1,5). Two isoforms of human fetal brain Dyrk2 exist: a deduced 528-amino acid protein and a protein containing 73 additional amino acids at the amino terminus (4). Dyrk3 is strongly expressed in testis, only after the onset of spermatogenesis, and very weakly expressed in spleen and adrenal gland (1). The genes which encode Dyrk2 and Dyrk3 map to human chromosomes 12 and 1q32, respectively (4).

Unlike other homeotic selector genes which are expressed transiently during development and differentiation, Pbx gene transcripts are ubiquitously expressed in both fetal and adult tissues and cell lines. Additionally, Pbx 2 and Pbx 3 transcripts are detected in lymphoid cells, which do not express Pbx 1. The forkhead domain-containing gene family (Fox) comprises over 20 members in mammals and is defined by a conserved 110 amino-acid motif containing a winged helix structure DNA-binding domain. The members of this gene family have been implicated as key regulators of embryogenesis, cell cycling, cell lineage restriction and cancer. As such, FOXN2 contains a domain with homology to the forkhead DNA binding domain. FOXN2, or Human T-cell leukemia virus enhancer factor, is a 341 amino acid protein mapping to human gene FOXN2, which has been localized to human chromosome 2p16-p22. This protein, encoded by a 1239-bp cDNA isolated from the Jurkat cDNA library, is capable of binding to a region of the human T-cell leukemia virus long terminal repeat (HTLV-I LTR) located between amino acids 155 and 117. This purine-rich region is important in the regulation of gene expression by the Ets family of transcription factors. FOXN2 is a unique cellular gene that may function in the transcriptional regulation of HTLV-I LTR.
