Plasma membrane electron transport pathways are involved in functions as diverse as cellular defense, intracellular redox homeostasis, and control of cell growth and survival. Members of the ecto-NOX family, such as CNOX, or ENOX1, are involved in plasma membrane transport pathways. CCL22 (C-C Motif Chemokine 22; Stimulated T cell chemotactic protein; STCP1) is a CC chemokine initially isolated from clones of monocyte-derived macrophages and binds to the receptor CCR4. Human CCL22 is highly expressed in macrophage and in monocyte-derived dendritic cells and thymus. It is also found in lymph node, appendix, activated monocytes, resting and activated macrophages. May play a role in the trafficking of activated/effector T lymphocytes to inflammatory sites and other aspects of activated T lymphocyte physiology. CCL22 has been shown to induce chemotaxis or Ca2+ mobilisation in dendritic cells, IL-2 activated NK cells and activated T lymphocytes.

Although differing in substrate specificity, subcellular localization, and tissue distribution, all isozymes of this family convert free long-chain fatty acids into fatty acyl-CoA esters, and thereby play a key role in lipid biosynthesis and fatty acid degradation. This isozyme activates long-chain, branched-chain and very-long-chain fatty acids containing 22 or more carbons to their CoA derivatives. It is expressed primarily in liver and kidney, and is present in both endoplasmic reticulum and peroxisomes, but not in mitochondria.
