The activating transcription factor ATF-2 (also called CRE-BP1) binds to both AP-1 and CRE DNA response elements and is a member of the ATF/CREB family of leucine zipper proteins. ATF-2 has been implicated in the transcriptional regulation of a number of genes including cytokines, cell cycle control and apoptosis. Various forms of cellular stress, including inflammatory cytokines and UV irradiation, stimulate the transcriptional activity of ATF-2. Stress induced ATF-dependent transcription is dependent on phosphorylation of ATF. Serine 490 and serine 498 are novel phosphorylation sites on ATF that have recently been identified. In addition, ATF2 is particularly abundant in the brain and the ATF2 family of transcription factors is considered important substrates of signals upstream of the activation of genes associated with neuronal growth and differentiation. ATF expression has also been linked to the depression in humans.

It is a cytoplasmic component of desmosomes and adherens junctions structures located within intercalated discs of cardiac muscle that function to anchor sarcomeres and join adjacent cells in cardiac muscle. Mutations in Plakoglobin are associated with arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia and Pemphigus vulgaris.<p>Plakoglobin is a major cytoplasmic component of both desmosomes and adherens junctions, and is the only known constituent common to submembranous plaques in both of these structures, which are located at the intercalated disc (ICD) of cardiomyocytes. The 145-2C11 monoclonal antibody reacts with mouse CD3e, the 20 kDa epsilon chain of the TCR complex. Together with the gamma and delta subunits of CD3, the epsilon subunits are involved in the assembly, trafficking, and surface expression of T-cell receptor complex. CD3 is expressed on thymocytes, mature T cells, and natural killer T cells, and the epsilon chain enhances the antigen recognition.The 145-2C11 antibody binds to the TCR complex and, depending on the conditions, initiates T cells activation, proliferation, and apoptosis. The soluble antibody seems to block lysis of target cells by antigen-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes. The 145-2C11 antibody does not cross-react with the rat leukocytes, and it is used as a phenotypic marker for mouse T lymphocytes.
