The MEL-14 monoclonal antibody specifically reacts with L- selectin (CD62L), a receptor with lectin-like and Epidermal Growth Factor-like domains. The weight of the CD62L molecules depend on their origin: 74 kDa (on lymphocytes) or 95 kDa (on neutrophils).In the Mouseorganism, CD62L can be expressed by most thymocytes, on subsets of B and T lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils, and neutrophils. The L-selectin binds sulfated, fucosylated, and glycosylated glycoproteins (MadCAM-1, GLYCAM-1, and CD 34). It mediates the migration of lymphocytes to the site of inflammation and their return to the peripheral lymphoid tissues and to the HEV (high endothelial venules). In vitro, L-selectin inhibits this binding and the lymphocyte extravasation into peripheral lymph nodes.

Multiple isoelectric variants of calponin have been identified, however only two molecular weight isoforms exist; a 34 kDa form and a 29 kDa form. Expression of the 29 kDa form, I-calponin, is primarily restricted to muscle of the urogenital tract, whereas the higher molecular weight variant has been demonstrated in vascular and visceral smooth muscle. Calponin is a calmodulin, F-actin and tropomyosin binding protein, which is thought to be involved in the regulation of smooth muscle contraction. Calponin expression is restricted to smooth muscle cells and has been shown to be a marker of the differentiated (contractile) phenotype of developing smooth muscle.

The G protein–coupled receptor kinases (GRKs) are a versatile family of kinases that play a critical role in cancer metastasis through their regulation of G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) involved in growth factor mediated cell migration (1,2). Phosphorylation of receptors by GRKs appears to be strictly dependent on the receptor being in its agonist-activated state. GRK6 is one of 7 members of the GRK serine/threonine kinase subfamily, which has been shown to modulate the Wnt signaling pathway via phosphorylation of LRP6 (3,4), and the insulin-like growth factor signaling pathway. GRK6 may also play a role in immune system function.
