CD3 is expressed, typically at high levels, on peripheral T cells and majority of T cell neoplasms. Thymocytes express CD3 at different level on the cell surface in the course of differentiation and, in cortical thymus, CD3 is predominantly Intracytoplasmic. The CD3 complex is closely associated at the lymphocyte cell surface with T cell antigen receptor (TCR) and is involved in transducing antigen-recognition signals into cytoplasm of T cells and in regulating the cell surface expression of the TCR complex.

Desmoglein proteins are cadherin-type cell adhesion molecules. Desmoglein 4 (dsg4) shares 41% identity with human desmoglein 1, 37% with human desmoglein 2 and 50% with human desmoglein 3. A type I membrane protein of the cadherin protein family, dsg4 is expressed in salivary gland, suprabasal epidermis, hair follicle, testis, prostate and skin. The gene encoding CFDP1 maps to human chromsome 16, in a region that has been associated with inherited craniofacial diseases, such as fanconi anemia type A. There are two isoforms of CFDP1 that are produced as a result of alternative splicing events.
