SPG15 Antibody: Hereditary spastic paraplegias (HSPs) are genetically and phenotypically heterogeneous disorders. Spastic paraplegia with thinning of the corpus callosum (ARHSP-TCC) is a relatively frequent form of complicated hereditary spastic paraplegia in which mental retardation and muscle stiffness at onset are followed by slowly progressive paraparesis and cognitive deterioration. SPG15 is the second gene known to be responsible for ARHSP-TCC in the Italian population. Mutations in this gene are associated with autosomal recessive spastic paraplegia-15. SPG15 encodes a protein containing a FYVE zinc finger binding domain which is thought to target these proteins to membrane lipids through interaction with phospholipids in the membrane. SPG15 mRNA is widely distributed in human tissues, as well as in rat embryos, suggesting a possible role for this protein during embryonic development. SPG15 co-localizes partially with endoplasmic reticulum and endosome markers, suggesting a role in intracellular trafficking. Multiple isoforms of SPG15 are known to exist.

CMV (UL44) peptide pool is a lyophilised mixture of 106 peptides from DNA polymerase processivity factor UL44 of human cytomegalovirus (CMV; strain AD169), and consists of 15-mer peptides with 11-amino-acid overlaps that cover amino acids 1 to 433 on UL44. UL44 contains a nuclear localization signal (Alvisi <i>et al.</i>) and may bind DNA directly, or form a C clamp partially surrounding it, similar to proliferation cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) (Appleton <i>et al.</i>). UL44 has also been found to interact with viral (Kim and Ahn) and host (Strang <i>et al.</i>) proteins that contribute to viral DNA replication and efficient viral growth. Viral peptide pools are useful for a broad range of applications, including vaccine development, immunological research, and diagnostic assay development.

It has also been implicated in translational control of the 15-lipoxygenase mRNA, human Papillomavirus type 16 L2 mRNA, and hepatitis A virus RNA. The protein is also suggested to play a part in formation of a sequence-specific alpha-globin mRNP complex which is associated with alpha-globin mRNA stability. This gene and PCBP-1 has paralogues PCBP3 and PCBP4 which is thought to arose as a result of duplication events of entire genes.The protein encoded by this gene appears to be multifunctional. Along with PCBP-1 and hnRNPK, it is one of the major cellular poly (rC)-binding proteins. The encoded protein contains three K-homologous (KH) domains which may be involved in RNA binding.
