Spin trap used in conjunction with Fe²⁺ to detect NO in brain, kidney, liver, and other tissues. Simultaneous direct measurement of NO* and pO₂ has been reported. A copper chelator, it has been used to quantitate copper in biological materials by ESR and is an inhibitor of superoxide dismutase, ascorbate oxidase, and other enzymes. Also used for colorimetric determination of small quantities of arsenic. Silver diethyldithiocarbamate has been used in cell culture. Ferric-chelate reductase that reduces Fe(3+) to Fe(2+). Present at the brush border of duodenal enterocytes where it probably reduces dietary Fe(3+) thereby facilitating its transport into the mucosal cells. Uses ascorbate as electron donor. May be involved in extracellular ascorbate recycling in erythrocyte membranes. May also act as a ferrireductase in airway epithelial cells.

DBH is an oxireductase belonging to the copper type II ascorbate-dependent monooxygenase family. DBH exists as a homotetramer composed of two non-covalently bound disulfide-linked dimers. It is present in the synaptic vesicles of postganglionic sympathetic neurons and converts dopamine to norepinephrine. It binds 2 copper ions and 1 PQQ per subunit . Depending on the presence of a signal peptide, DBH can exist in both soluble and membrane-bound forms.
