Beschreibung:   Probable RNA/DNA helicase involved in diverse aspects of RNA metabolism and genomic integrity. Plays a role in transcription regulation by its ability to modulate RNA Polymerase II (Pol II) binding to chromatin and through its interaction with proteins involved in transcription (PubMed:19515850, PubMed:21700224). Contributes to the mRNA splicing efficiency and splice site selection (PubMed:19515850). Required for the resolution of R-loop RNA-DNA hybrid formation at G-rich pause sites located downstream of the poly(A) site, allowing XRN2 recruitment and XRN2-mediated degradation of the downstream cleaved RNA and hence efficient RNA polymerase II (RNAp II) transcription termination (PubMed:19515850, PubMed:21700224). Required for the 3' transcriptional termination of PER1 and CRY2, thus playing an important role in the circadian rhythm regulation (By similarity). Involved in DNA double-strand breaks damage response generated by oxidative stress (PubMed:17562789). In association with RRP45, targets the RNA exosome complex to sites of transcription-induced DNA damage (PubMed:24105744). Plays a role in the development and maturation of germ cells: essential for male meiosis, acting at the interface of transcription and meiotic recombination, and in the process of gene silencing during meiotic sex chromosome inactivation (MSCI) (By similarity). May be involved in telomeric stability through the regulation of telomere repeat-containing RNA (TERRA) transcription (PubMed:21112256). Plays a role in neurite outgrowth in hippocampal cells through FGF8-activated signaling pathways. Inhibits retinoic acid-induced apoptosis (PubMed:21576111).

Beschreibung:   Voltage-gated sodium channels are selective ion channels that regulate the permeability of sodium ions in excitable cells. During the propagation of an action potential, sodium channels allow an influx of sodium ions, which rapidly depolarizes the cell. Na+ CP type II beta(sodium channel, voltage-gated, type II, beta), also known as SCN2B, is a 215 amino acid single-pass type I membrane protein that plays a critical role in the expression and assembly of the heterotrimeric complex of the sodium channel and interacts with Tenascin-R to influence the clustering and regulation of sodium channels at nodes of Ranvier. Expressed specifically in brain, Na+ CP type II beta contains one Ig-like C2-type (immunoglobulin-like) domain and is encoded by a gene that maps to human chromosome 11q23.3 and mouse chromosome 9 A5.2.

Beschreibung:   Cytokeratins, a group comprising at least 29 different proteins, are characteristic of epithelial and trichocytic cells. Cytokeratins 1, 4, 5, 6, and 8 are members of the type II neutral to basic subfamily. Antibody to cytokeratins are specific markers of epithelial cell differentiation and have been widely used as tools in tumor identification and classification. Anti Pan Cytokeratin (mixture) is a broadly reactive reagent, which recognizes epitopes present in most human epithelial tissues. It facilitates typing of normal, metaplastic and neoplastic cells. Synergy between the various components results in staining amplification. This enables identification of cells, which would otherwise be stained only marginally. The mixture may aid in the discrimination of carcinomas and nonepithelial tumors such as sarcomas, lymphomas and neural tumors. It is also useful in detecting micrometastases in lymph nodes, bone marrow and other tissues and for determining the origin of poorly differentiated tumors. There are two types of cytokeratins the acidic type I cytokeratins and the basic or neutral type II cytokeratins. Cytokeratins are usually found in pairs comprising a type I cytokeratin and a type II cytokeratin. Usually the type II cytokeratins are 8kD larger than their type I counterparts.

Beschreibung:   Members of the transforming growth factor b superfamily bind to a pair of transmembrane proteins, known as receptor types I and II, which contain serine/threonine kinases and associate to form a signaling complex (1). Activin has been shown to bind a heteromeric noncovalent complex, which consists of a type I receptor, ACTR-IA (also designated ACVRI and ALK-2) or ACTR-IB (also designated ALK-4 and SKR2), and a type II receptor, ACTR-IIA (also designated ACVR2A) or ACTR-IIB (also designated ACVR2B) (1-6). Both receptor types are highly expressed in brain (5). The activin receptor family members are thought to mediate distinct effects on gene expression, cell differentiation, and morpho- genesis in a dose dependent fashion (5,6).

Beschreibung:   GALK2 is important in the first step of the galactose metabolism pathway. GALK1, which belongs to the GHMP kinase family of proteins, is a crucial enzyme for galactose metabolism, specifically converting ?d-galactose to galactose 1-phosphate. Defects in the gene encoding GALK1 can cause galactosemia II, an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by congenital cataracts during infancy, often within the first two weeks of life. In the adult population, galactosemia II can cause presenile cataracts that are secondary to accumulation of galactitol in the lens of the eye. A second gene, GALK2, encodes an enzyme with greater activity against GalNAc than galactose. GALK2 has been implicated in the salvage pathway for the reutilization of free GalNAc derived from the degradation of complex carbohydrates.
