This gene encodes an aspartic proteinase that belongs to the peptidase family A1. The encoded protein is a digestive enzyme that is produced in the stomach and constitutes a major component of the gastric mucosa. This protein is also secreted into the serum. This protein is synthesised as an inactive zymogen that includes a highly basic prosegment. This enzyme is converted into its active mature form at low pH by sequential cleavage of the prosegment that is carried out by the enzyme itself. Polymorphisms in this gene are associated with susceptibility to gastric cancers. Serum levels of this enzyme are used as a biomarker for certain gastric diseases including Helicobacter pylori related gastritis. Alternate splicing results in multiple transcript variants. A pseudogene of this gene is found on chromosome 1.

Rb is a tumor suppressor gene which functions as a negative regulator of the cell cycle by interacting with transcription factors including E2F1, PU1, ATF2, UBF, Elf1 and cAbl. This ability of Rb to alter transcription is regulated by phosphorylation catalyzed by the cyclin dependent protein kinases (cdks). Rb is phosphorylated on serine and threonine, but not on tyrosine residues. It forms a complex with SV40 large T antigen, adenovirus E1A, and human papilloma virus 16E. Rb protein may act by regulating transcription and loss of its function leads to uncontrolled cell growth. Aberrations in the Rb gene have been implicated in cancers of breast, colon, prostate, kidney, nasopharynx, and leukemia.

Muskelin is a 735 amino acid nuclear and cytoplasmic protein that mediates cytoskeletal responses and cell spreading to Thrombospondin 1, an extracellular matrix glycoprotein. Forming a CTLH complex with RMND5A, Ran BP-M and TWA1, Muskelin exists as two alternatively spliced isoforms. Muskelin is implicated as an isoform-specific anchoring protein for the prostaglandin EP3 receptor, and contains one LisH domain, a CTLH domain, six Kelch repeats and an N-terminal discoidin-like domain through which it self-associates via a head-to-tail mechanism. Human and mouse Muskelin share 98% amino acid seqeuence homology and are encoded by genes located on chromosomes 7q32.3 and 6 A3.3, respectively.

This antibody recognizes a 63 kDa protein, which is identified as TOX3. It contains a high mobility group (HMG)-box, which regulates Ca2 -dependent transcription in neurons through interaction with the cAMP-response-element-binding protein (CREB). TOX3 appears to be associated with breast cancer susceptibility and is expressed downstream of a cytoprotective cascade together with CITED1, a transcriptional regulator that does not bind directly to DNA. TOX3 is predominantly expressed in the brain and forms homodimers. TOX3 overexpression protects neuronal cells from cell death caused by endoplasmic reticulum stress or BAX overexpression through the induction of anti-apoptotic transcripts and repression of pro-apoptotic transcripts.

Chymotrypsins cleave peptide bonds by attacking the non-reactive carbonyl group with a powerful nucleophile, which momentarily becomes covalently bonded to the substrate to form an intermediate. Chymotrypsin B (CTRB1) and Chymotrypsin B2 (CTRB2) are synthesised in the pancreas by protein biosynthesis as precursors that are enzymatically inactive, but become active as three polypeptide molecules that are interconnected by disulfide bonds.

The hexameric protein complex formed by MCM proteins is a key component of the pre-replication complex (pre_RC) and may be involved in the formation of replication forks and in the recruitment of other DNA replication related proteins. This protein is a subunit of the protein complex that consists of MCM2-7. It has been shown to interact directly with MCM5/CDC46. This protein also interacts with, and thus is acetlyated by MCM3AP, a chromatin-associated acetyltransferase. The acetylation of this protein inhibits the initiation of DNA replication and cell cycle progression.

It is most probably a transcription termination factor. Binds to the 3' termini of virtually all nascent polymerase III transcripts. It is associated with precursor forms of RNA polymerase III transcripts including tRNA and 4.5S, 5S, 7S, and 7-2 RNAs. The phosphorylation sites are at the C-terminal part of the protein. Sera from patients with systemic lupus erythematosus(SLE) often contain that react with the normal cellular La protein as if this antigen was foreign.
