Beschreibung:   This gene encodes one of three opioid receptors. The mu opioid receptor is the principal target of endogenous opioid peptides and opioid analgesic agents such a s beta-endorphn and enkephalins. The NM_001008503.1:c.118A>G allele had been associated with opioid and alcohol addiction and variations in pain sensitivity but evidence is conflicting. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jun 2012]

Beschreibung:   Serine/threonine kinase which acts as an essential component of the MAP kinase signal transduction pathway. Plays an important role in the cascades of cellular responses evoked by changes in the environment. Mediates signaling for determination of cell fate such as differentiation and survival. Plays a crucial role in the apoptosis signal transduction pathway through mitochondria-dependent caspase activation. MAP3K5/ASK1 is required for the innate immune response, which is essential for host defense against a wide range of pathogens. Mediates signal transduction of various stressors like oxidative stress as well as by receptor-mediated inflammatory signals, such as the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) or lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Once activated, acts as an upstream activator of the MKK/JNK signal transduction cascade and the p38 MAPK signal transduction cascade through the phosphorylation and activation of several MAP kinase kinases like MAP2K4/SEK1, MAP2K3/MKK3, MAP2K6/MKK6 and MAP2K7/MKK7. These MAP2Ks in turn activate p38 MAPKs and c-jun N-terminal kinases (JNKs). Both p38 MAPK and JNKs control the transcription factors activator protein-1 (AP-1).

Beschreibung:   DIO2 belongs to the iodothyronine deiodinase family and is responsible for the deiodination of T4 (3,5,3',5'-tetraiodothyronine) into T3 (3,5,3'-triiodothyronine). It is essential for providing the brain with appropriate levels of T3 during the critical period of development. DIO2 is expressed in heart, skeletal muscle, placenta, fetal brain and several regions of the adult brain. There are two named isoforms.

Beschreibung:   Mediates the voltage-dependent sodium ion permeability of excitable membranes. Assuming opened or closed conformations in response to the voltage difference across the membrane, the protein forms a sodium-selective channel through which Na(+) ions may pass in accordance with their electrochemical gradient. In macrophages and melanoma cells, isoform 5 may participate in the control of podosome and invadopodia formation.

Beschreibung:   PIGA belongs to the glycosyltransferase 1 family and is necessary for the synthesis of N-acetylglucosaminyl-phosphatidylinositol, the very early intermediate in GPI-anchor biosynthesis. Defects in PIGA are the cause of paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) which is an acquired hemolytic blood disorder characterized by chronic hemolysis with hemoglobinuria, increased tendency to venous thrombosis, and variable degrees of bone marrow failure.

Beschreibung:   Gemin7 is a 131 amino acid protein encoded by the mouse gene Gemin7. Gemin7, along with Gemin6, is a significant component of the the large multiprotein human SMN complex. The SMN complex functions as an assembly machine for small nuclear ribonucleoproteins (snRNPs)-the major components of the spliceosome. The survival of motor neurons (SMN) protein, a product of the disease gene of the common neurodegenerative disease, spinal muscular atrophy, is also part of the SMN complex. Although Gemin6 and Gemin7 have no significant sequence similarity with Sm proteins, both adopt canonical Sm folds. Moreover, Gemin6 and Gemin7 exist as a heterodimer, and interact with each other via an interface similar to that which mediates interactions among the Sm proteins. The Gemin6/Gemin7 complex binds to Sm proteins and might help organize Sm proteins for formation of Sm rings on snRNA targets.

Beschreibung:   G protein-coupled receptors (GPRs), also known as seven transmembrane receptors, heptahelical receptors or 7TM receptors, comprise a superfamily of proteins that play a role in many different stimulus-response pathways. G protein coupled receptors translate extracellular signals into intracellular signals (G protein activation) and they respond to a variety of signaling molecules, such as hormones and neurotransmitters. GPR101 (G protein-coupled receptor 101), also known as GPCR6, is a 508 amino acid multi-pass membrane protein that belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor 1 family. GPR101 functions as an orphan receptor that is thought to play a role in signaling events throughout the cell. Expressed predominantly in brain, GPR101 participates in a wide range of activities in the CNS via modulation of cAMP levels.

Beschreibung:   EYA3 is a 573 amino acid protein that localizes to both the nucleus and the cytoplasm and is one of several mammalian homologs of the Drosophila Eya (eyes absent) protein. Existing as two alternatively spliced isoforms, EYA3 possesses magnesium-catalyzed phosphatase activity and is thought to play a role in transcriptional regulation during organogenesis. Specifically, EYA3 interacts with proteins such as Six1 and, via this interaction, functions to activate the expression of genes that are involved in cellular proliferation and organ development. Upon DNA damage, EYA3 may be phosphorylated by ATM or ATR. The gene encoding EYA3 maps to chromosome 1, which spans about 260 million base pairs and comprises nearly 8% of the human genome.

Beschreibung:   LRFN1 is a 771 amino acid single-pass type I membrane protein that belongs to the LRFN family. Containing a fibronectin type-III domain, an Ig-like (immunoglobulin-like) domain, a LRRCT domain, a LRRNT domain and seven LRR (leucine-rich) repeats, LRFN1 is thought to promote neurite outgrowth in hippocampal neurons and is involved in the regulation and maintenance of excitatory synapses. LRFN1 forms heteromeric complexes with LRFN2, LRFN3, LFRN4 and LFRN5, but does not have the ability to form homomeric complexes across cell junctions of adjacent cells like other LRFN family members. The PDZ-binding motif of LRFN1 is required for neurite outgrowth promotion and for SAP 97-, NE-dlg- and PSD-95-binding. LRFN1 is encoded by a gene located on human chromosome 19q13.2 and mouse chromosome 7 A3.

Beschreibung:   This gene encodes a member of the insulin-like hormone superfamily. The encoded protein is mainly produced in gonadal tissues. Studies of the mouse counterpart suggest that this gene may be involved in the development of urogenital tract and female fertility. This protein may also act as a hormone to regulate growth and differentiation of gubernaculum, and thus mediating intra-abdominal testicular descent. Mutations in this gene may lead to cryptorchidism. Alternate splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, May 2012].

Beschreibung:   Serine protease that shows proteolytic activity against a non-specific substrate beta-casein. Promotes or induces cell death either by direct binding to and inhibition of BIRC proteins(also called inhibitor of apoptosis proteins, IAPs), leading to an increase in caspase activity, or by a BIRC inhibition-independent, caspase-independent and serine protease activity-dependent mechanism. Isoform 2 seems to be proteolytically inactive. [CATALYTIC ACTIVITY] Cleavage of non-polar aliphatic amino-acids at the P1 position, with a preference for Val, Ile and Met. At the P2 and P3 positions, Arg is selected most strongly with a secondary preference for other hydrophilic residues. [SUBUNIT] Homotrimer. Interacts with MXI2. The mature protein, but not the precursor, binds to BIRC2, BIRC3 and XIAP.
