Sauvagine is a 40-residue peptide isolated and characterised from frog skin. It shares significant structural homology with and elicits similar biological responses as corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF). It has high affinity for both the CRF1 and CRF2 receptors (and low affinity for the CRF binding protein), suggesting its potential as a pharmacological tool for the study of these receptor sub-types. Due to the binding to CRF2 receptors and their role in the release of ACTH and beta-endorphin during stress, possible areas of research with this ligand include anxiety, depression and obesity.

Collapsin response mediator proteins (CRMPs) are cytosolic phosphoproteins involved in neuronal differentiation and axonal guidance. CRMP2 was previously shown to mediate the repulsive effect of Sema3A on axons and to participate in axonal specification. The CRMPs appear to play a complex role in axon growth as well as microtubule dynamics and axon induction. CRMPs localize to the lamellipodia and filopodia of axonal growth cones, suggesting a role in axon guidance. Moreover, CRMP2 is upregulated after axotomy, and appears to increase the formation of axon-type processes from hippocampal neurons. CRMP2 has been reported to bind tubulin dimers directly and modulate microtubule assembly. CRMPs have also been implicated in the pathogenesis of a paraneoplastic neurologic syndrome. Interaction studies have implicated phospholipase D2 (PLD2), the cytosolic tyrosine kinase Fes, and intersectin in CRMP function. Hyperphosphorylation of CRMP2 is an early event in the progression of Alzheimer's disease.

The family of guanylin regulatory peptides, including guanylin and uroguanylin, are strongly expressed in intestinal mucosa and regulate intestinal fluid secretion during digestion. Guanylins are also involved in acid neutralization and the regulation of membrane-bound guanylate cyclase signaling molecules. Guanylin and uroguanylin are secreted primarily in the stomach, intestine, and colon. Guanylin is also detected in plasma. Guanylin is an endogenous activator of intestinal guanylate cyclase. It stimulates intestinal guanylate cyclase through the same receptor binding region as the heat-stable enterotoxins. Gut enterochromaffin cells synthesize guanylin to be a prohormone of 115 amino acids which is then is processed to the molecular form of 94 amino acids. This 10kDa form is found circulating in the blood.

Fe65L is a 758 amino acid protein that contains one WW domain and two PID domains. Binding to the intracellular domain of the -Amyloid precursor protein, Fe65L is thought to modulate the internalisation and, therefore, the accessibility and function of -Amyloid. Via its ability to control the intracellular accumulation of -Amyloid, Fe65L is thought to play a role in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease. Multiple isoforms of Fe65L exist due to alternative splicing events. The gene encoding Fe65L maps to human chromosome 4, which encodes nearly 6% of the human genome and has the largest gene deserts (regions of the genome with no protein encoding genes) of all of the human chromosomes. Defects in some of the genes located on chromosome 4 are associated with Huntington's disease, Ellis-van Creveld syndrome, methylmalonic acidemia and polycystic kidney disease.
