Beschreibung:   Carboxymethyl Cellulose Sodium Salt is a high viscosity carboxymethylcellulose (CMC); the viscosity of a 1% solution in water at 25 °C is 1300-2200 centipoise (cps). The viscosity is both concentration and temperature dependent. As the temperaure increases, the viscosity decreases. As the concentration increases, the viscosity increases.

Beschreibung:   Receptor-activated non-selective cation channel involved in detection of sensations such as coolness, by being activated by cold temperature below 25 degrees Celsius. Activated by icilin, eucalyptol, menthol, cold and modulation of intracellular pH. Involved in menthol sensation. Permeable for monovalent cations sodium, potassium, and cesium and divalent cation calcium. Temperature sensing is tightly linked to voltage-dependent gating. Activated upon depolarization, changes in temperature resulting in graded shifts of its voltage-dependent activation curves. The chemical agonists menthol functions as a gating modifier, shifting activation curves towards physiological membrane potentials. Temperature sensitivity arises from a tenfold difference in the activation energies associated with voltage-dependent opening and closing.

Beschreibung:   Piperacillin is a semisynthetic, broad-spectrum ureidopenicillin antibiotic. It is derived from ampicillin. Piperacillin inhibits the last stage of bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to certain penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), which results in cell lysis. Cell lysis is mediated by bacterial cell wall autolytic enzymes. Piperacillin may interfere with autolysin inhibitors.
It has been used in pharmacokinetic studies in order to optimize antimicrobial therapy in patients with sepsis. It is used to study piperacillin hypersensitivity reactions and to study multidrug-resistant organisms.

Beschreibung:   The PHEX a 749 amino acid protein that putatively consists of an intracellular, transmembrane and extracellular domain. PHEX mutations have been observed in 60-80% of hypophosphatemic rickets patients. The PHEX protein, which is a single-pass membrane protein, is also designated HYP, X-linked hypophosphatemia protein or metalloendopeptidase homolog PEX. PHEX plays an active role in bone and dentin mineralization and renal phosphate re-absorption. X-linked hypophosphatemic rickets, also designated HYP, is an X-linked dominant disorder characterized by impaired phosphate uptake in the kidney, which is likely to be caused by abnormal regulation of sodium phosphate cotransport in the proximal tubules. Clinical manifestations include skeletal deformities, growth failure, craniosynostosis, paravertebral calcifications, pseudofractures in lower extremities, and muscular hypotonia with onset in early childhood.

Beschreibung:   Myo-inositol is involved in many important aspects of cellular regulation including membrane structure, signal transduction and osmoregulation. It is taken up into cells by the sodium/myo-inositol cotransporter (SMIT). SMIT activity maintains intracellular concentrations of myo-inositol; it is upregulated in response to hypertonic stress. The human SMIT protein is encoded by the SLC5A3 gene, which maps to chromosome 21q22.12. It is expressed in many human tissues, such as brain, kidney and placenta. Specifically, SMIT is abundantly expressed throughout the whole brain and spinal cord in fetal rat, but is downregulated in adult rat brain with the exception of the choroid plexus, where SMIT expression remains high. In kidney, SMIT localizes to the baso-lateral membranes of the thick ascending limb of Henle (TAL) and the inner medullary collecting duct (IMCD). Impaired SMIT activity is implicated in the pathogenesis of diabetes and Down syndrome.
