Sauvagine is a 40-residue peptide isolated and characterized from frog skin. It shares significant structural homology with and elicits similar biological responses as corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF). It has high affinity for both the CRF1 and CRF2 receptors (and low affinity for the CRF binding protein), suggesting its potential as a pharmacological tool for the study of these receptor sub-types. Due to the binding to CRF2 receptors and their role in the release of ACTH and beta-endorphin during stress, possible areas of research with this ligand include anxiety, depression and obesity.

RTF1 is the the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) in the rat which contains genes that code for two class II histocompatibility antigens. RT1-B is an antigen of the RT1 complex. It is a protein dimer consisting of an alpha and beta glycoprotein chain and is homologous to I-A and I-E genes, respectively, in the H-2 complex of the mouse. Apolipoprotein E (ApoE) is a lipoprotein involved in fat metabolism and acts as cholesterol carrier between cells and across tissues. On a genetic level, three APOE alleles are described, APOE2, APOE3 and APOE4. These alleles give rise to six APOE isoforms, which are differentially implicated in various diseases. In the peripheral system, APOE4 is linked to increased risk of atherosclerosis. In the CNS, the ability of APOE4 in clearing beta-amyloid is impaired, while APOE3 and APOE2 are more efficient in performing this task. The B subunit of cholera toxin (CtxB) binds to a GM1-ganglioside receptor, a ubiquitous glycolipid cell surface receptor. This binding is widely accepted to initiate toxin action by triggering uptake and delivery of the toxin A subunit into cells. The beta chain has no toxic activity by itself. The holotoxin consists of a pentameric ring of B subunits whose central pore is occupied by the A subunit. The A subunit contains two chains, A1 and A2, linked by a disulfide bridge. The A subunit (and Cholera toxin) activates the adenylate cyclase enzyme in cells of the intestinal mucosa leading to increased levels of intracellular cAMP.

The heavy chain is anchored in the membrane. HLA-G is expressed on fetal derived placental cells. The heavy chain is approximately 45 kDa and its gene contains 8 exons. Exon one encodes the leader peptide, exons 2 and 3 encode the alpha1 and alpha2 domain, which both bind the peptide, exon 4 encodes the alpha3 domain, exon 5 encodes the transmembrane region, and exon 6 encodes the cytoplasmic tail.
