Ubiquitin-Conjugating Enzyme E2 C (UBE2C) is a 179 amino acid enzyme that belongs to the Ubiquitin-Conjugating Enzyme family. UBE2C is highly expressed in tumour tissues and at low levels in most adult normal tissues. UBE2C is required for the destruction of mitotic cyclins and for cell cycle progression. UBE2C accepts Ubiquitin from the E1 complex and catalyses its covalent attachment to other proteins. It acts as an essential factor of the anaphase promoting complex/cyclosome (APC/C), which has E3 ubiquitin ligase activity, and targets for destruction substrates from the preceding mitosis (Cyclin A, Cyclin B, Securin, Geminin).

Irisin is a recently described exercise-induced hormone secreted by skeletal muscle in mice and humans. Irisin activates beige fat cells (beige cells have a gene expression pattern distinct from either white or brown fat and are preferentially sensitive to the polypeptide hormone irisin). Irisin is cleaved from the type I membrane protein FNDC5 and improves systemic metabolism by increasing energy expenditure. FNDC4 is an ortholog of FNDC5 with 50% identity and 86% similarity compared to Irisin. FNDC4 as well as FNDC5 are extremely well conserved between species. The function of FNDC4 is unknown. The human FNDC4 gene is highly enriched in liver, brain tissue and adipocytes.

Triggering Receptor Expressed on Myeloid Cells-Like Protein 1 (TREML1) is a single-pass type I membrane protein. TREML1 precursor contains a 15 amino acid signal peptide, a 147 amino acid extracellular domain with an Ig-like V-type (immunoglobulin-like) domain, and 128 amino acid cytoplasmic domain. It can be expressed exclusively in platelets and megakaryocytes (MKs). It is a cell surface receptor that may play a role in the innate and adaptive immune response. TREML1 Sequestered in cytoplasmic vesicles in resting platelets. TREML1 be transported to the cell surface after stimulation by thrombin. Soluble fragments can be released into the serum by proteolysis. The phosphorylated TREML1 can interact with PTPN6 and PTPN11. TREML1 may participate in maintaining vascular hemostasis and regulating coagulation and inflammation at sites of injury.

Serpins are involved in a number of fundamental biological processes such as blood coagulation, complement activation, fibrinolysis, angiogenesis, inflammation and tumour suppression and are expressed in a cell-specific manner. SerpinB12 inhibits trypsin and plasmin, but not thrombin, coagulation factor Xa, or urokinase-type plasminogen activator.

Vascular endothelial growth factor D (VEGF-D) is also known as C-fos induced growth factor (FIGF), which belongs to the PDGF / VEGF growth factor family and is active in angiogenesis, lymphangiogenesis, and endothelial cell growth, stimulating their proliferation and migration and also has effects on the permeability of blood vessels. This secreted protein VEGF-D / FIGF undergoes a complex proteolytic maturation, generating multiple processed forms that bind and activate VEGFR-2 and VEGFR-3. The structure and function of this protein is similar to those of VEGFC. FIGF / VEGF-D is highly expressed in lung, heart, small intestine and fetal lung. FIGF / VEGF-D may function in the formation of the venous and lymphatic vascular systems during embryogenesis, and also in the maintenance of differentiated lymphatic endothelium in adults. Binds and activates VEGFR-2 (KDR / FLK1) and VEGFR-3 (FLT4) receptors.
